Model farm planned
Plans are on to set up a model farm to demonstrate the cultivation of Mattu Gulla in about an acre of land at Mattu village to cater to a large number of researchers and tourists. Many researchers from other countries too are coming to study the vegetable.
“We have identified three pieces of land for the model farm near the backwaters of Mattu, but are yet to finalise the land. Since the Mattu beach is nearby, it will also help tourists. We will be submitting a project on the model farm to NABARD, which could be a potential funding agency, and we can also take the support of private donors if more funds are necessary,” said Mr. Joshi.

Udupi Mallige, also known as Shankarpura Mallige, is cultivated by about 7,000 growers in Shankarpura, Shirva, Innanje, Bantakal, Katapady and surrounding areas in Udupi district. According to the crop survey done in 2018-19, Udupi Mallige is grown on 116 hectares in Udupi, and its production is estimated at 863.55 tonnes, valued at ₹12.09 crore.
The FPO wil get ₹35 lakh as formation cost, ₹15 lakh as working capital, ₹22.5 lakh for machinery, amd ₹10 lakh equity grant from the Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium. The growers will get cold storage facility and godowns under the FPO.

“After the nod from the Excise Department, the company will have to work as per the guidelines of the District Neera Committee. Since it is a non-alcoholic beverage, a cold-storage chain will have to be maintained from its collection to its sale,” he said.
In the second phase, the company will expand and a bigger building will be constructed by November, and then produce items such as neera sugar, neera honey, neera chocolate and neera vinegar. “Our total project is estimated at about ₹ 4.5 crore,” Mr. Udupa said.

How about producing neera powder mixed with lime juice powder (can mix with lime juice before dehydration of neera), asfoetida, turmeric etc. Palm jaggery has 29 mg of magnesium (much higer than jaggery which is 16 mg) which is good for digestion and then other contents are added which are good for digestion. The powder-mix can be added to water and drank before food with some time gap. Even 'amla candy' prepared with palm jaggery is good for digestion. Or gooseberry can be dipped in neera syrup with turmeric, asfoetida etc powders.
Whether anyone is thinking of 'jackfruit juice vinegar' or 'jackfruit seeds vinegar' or 'jackfruit rags vinegar' 1 2? What about 'pomelo vinegar' 1? Before venturing into these we need to study side effects.

ಕೆಮಿಕಲ್ ಸೆಂಟ್ನಿಂದ ಪರಿಮಳ ಬರಬಹುದೇ ವಿನಾ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗುತ್ತದೋ? ಇದು ಇಂಗಾಲಾಮ್ಲವನ್ನು ಹೊರಸೂಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಇದಲ್ಲ. ಧೂಪವನ್ನು ಹಚ್ಚುವ ಬದಲು ಅಗರ್ಬತ್ತಿ ಕ್ರಮ ಚಾಲ್ತಿಗೆ ಬಂತು. ನಾವು ಧೂಪವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಆಮ್ಲಜನಕವನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಿ ಜೀವಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಪಕಾರಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿಯೇ ಧೂಪ-ದೀಪ-ನೈವೇದ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ರೂಢಿಗೆ ಬಂತು. ಹಿಂದೆ ಧೂಪದ ಮರಗಳೇ ಸಾಲುಮರಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಇದರ ತೊಗಟೆಯಿಂದ ಬರುವ ಮೇಣ, ದೇಸೀ ಹಸುಗಳ ಗೋಮಯ, ಭದ್ರಮುಷ್ಟಿ, ತುಪ್ಪವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿ ಧೂಪದ ಕಡ್ಡಿಯನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ. ಇದನ್ನು ನಾವು ಅನೇಕರಿಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
