Prince George was at 5 homicides first half of 2021, not sure what it is now.

Hard to believe PG has same number of murders as cities 5 times the size such as like Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

I guess we can add Quebec City to that list at 4.

https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/man-arre...city-1.5708487

The other murders were a drug dealer in Ste-Foy by the Pyramid and a domestic femicide in Limoilou. This latest double murder was in Charlesbourg just across from the year's first murder in Limoilou.
Lévis looks like it is at zero - but is part of greater Quebec City

Also, from 2019 - Diana Torres Acosta, 39 has been charged with involuntary homicide in the death of a 13-month-old child at an unregistered daycare.
I will have to look back at my 2019 posts to see what that changes for the numbers.

I didn't post in 2019 - not sure why not - Quebec city was originally at 5 murders in 2019, that should be adjusted to 6.

these murder rates are way too high, not that any is acceptable, but I wanna puke at the amount we have...

at least there is no Philadelphia here, 534 murders so far and that is only for the city proper which is half the size of the city of Toronto.

Looks like St. John's will end the year with 4 homicides after another one downtown early this morning. Up from just 2 last year, but on par with 4 from the year before.

I'm not sure what the annual statistics are but there have been several high-profile shootings in the Halifax area over the last few weeks, several of them fatal. They seem to be connected - most have involved people from a few specific areas in and around Dartmouth who seem to be "known to each other" - but the details are still murky. Sadly, one of the recent victims was an 8 year old boy, shot in a car on a busy street during rush hour traffic.

Gun crime seems to be on the rise here in recent years, not even counting that serial killer last year. Halifax is also gaining a reputation for having a major problem with human trafficking - maybe there's some connection there.

Yeah i saw that online. So sad......Too many kids in Halifax glamorize guns.

Halifax has had a reputation for human trafficking since the 80s. That is nothing new. In fact its not nearly as bad as it used to be. Nova Scotian pimps were known across the country back then.

Again too many young people glamorize this bullshit. It's pathetic.

Minor quibble - the rate for Montreal is closer to 1.75. Looks like you are calculating for city proper but the murder figures are always for the entire island which the city police patrols. It has 2.1 million people, so several hundred thousand more people than the city proper.

That said, Montreal may be at 38 soon as a teen or young man was shot last night and is in critical condition.

Apparently the official count for Halifax is 10:

Quote:
RCMP confirm death of man in Lake Loon was homicide

Halifax RCMP say the death of a man whose body was found in a car in Lake Loon on Dec. 23 has officially been ruled a homicide after an autopsy by the Medical Examiner Service

Police were called to the 100 block of Lake Loon Road just before 11 p.m. after someone reported a suspicious vehicle on the road. The 28-year-old victim’s body was found inside the vehicle, but police aren’t saying where.

Cpl. Chris Marshall said police aren’t releasing the man’s name or how he was killed, as the manner of death is “holdback” information in the investigation. They also aren’t saying where he was from.

Police said last week they don’t believe the killing was a random act.

Whether the man has any apparent connection to any previous shootings or homicides in Halifax County is still part of the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.

It was the 10th homicide in Halifax County this year, and the third in December.

I didn't realize it went back that far.

Laval looks correct, Quebec City is actually at 4 murders in 2021 (let's hope that is where it stays). But like Montreal we tend to look at the metro area - which is around 800K - so more like 0.5/100K.

Sadly it was another bad year for Winnipeg. There was one last homicide last night making it 43 for 2021.

Montreal finishes with 37. Most since 2010.

Still a lower rate than Toronto though. And Winnipeg..yikes.

This is the stereotypical response!

"There's no problem here, just look at Chicago!"

Every. Single. Time.

Could hit 300 murders..

"No worries, just look at Chicago!"

lol!
