Great stuff.
I flew in at night a few weeks ago and it was the best.

I could without the brooding skies sometimes though.

What an amazing city.

Wicker Park seems to be a neighborhood close to a potential future employer, and it also seems to be a pretty happening place for people my age (mid 20s). Thundertubs do you have an opinion on this neighborhood?
As an SF resident you should feel at home in Wicker Park. The only topography is the Bloomingdale Line, but it's full of rich people with an artsy flair, luxe shopping/dining, as well as the grungy (and chic) establishments where they hang out. Plus lots of hipster kids come in from the suburbs to indulge their ennui. Not much of a hippie or "naturalist" scene, though. Chicagoans tend to be pretty pragmatic and comfortable with all things artificial.

I dunno if you fit any of these stereotypes, but they should be pretty familiar after living on the Peninsula.

Wow, thanks, everyone! I've got heaps and heaps of Chicago photos, so maybe I'll try and tag a Part II on here, and show some neighborhoods that got shorted.

So I very much enjoyed this photo thread!

I know you're more of a metal fan, but I highly recommend The XX as a soundtrack to this thread.
I prefer taking pictures with less direct sunlight and no leaves on the trees for practical reasons, but I've also always felt that Chicago was it's truest self in the winter. That's when the real Chicagoness comes out.

It depends what you're looking for in a neighborhood. Wicker Park is a nice area. I always lived in the quieter/more grown up Ravenswood/Lincoln Square area, but that's more my speed. Wicker Park has some really nice housing and is one of the busier commercial districts in the city. Lots of nightlife and shopping.

Still unsure how to quote/reload an earlier photo, sorry... Long time thread follower first time poster. This is one of the most superb sets for Chicago I have ever seen. Very serene scenes (that I see daily) placed in a beautiful new light...... That being said, this photo towards the bottom of the thread is Devon/California.
Thanks for catching that. I should have known better, that stretch of Devon is one of my favorites in the city.

I love flying in at night and seeing the vast orange grid stretching to the horizon.

Can't wait to visit this city...this thread has got me ridiculously excited.

Just out of curiosity, how is the gay scene in Chicago? I've heard about the Lakeview/Boystown neighborhood...is it a cool place, relatively inexpensive?

so many strong points; i wouldn't know where to begin. i agree with posters who mentioned how extensive your photo coverage was and that you got to the real pulse of the city.

i'd like to add one observation of my own: i absolutely love the way you captured the downtown area from outside the core from the north, west, and south sides.

i agree with the poster who loved the photo taken of downtown from the north side lakefront (I'm assuming it must be from montrose harbor).

you really did justice to our town!
