San Pedro Street School was just north of E Washington Boulevard. It's now the San Pedro Street Elementary School, although the current buildings don't match the layout on the 1910 Baist map. I think this undated LAPL image shows the original building.
I didn't realize there were so many buildings crammed in behind the hotel. (and between the two wings)...If I didn't know better, I'd say it was a movie studio.

I'm going to go for 3470 Wilshire Boulevard. Despite being next to the Piccadilly Apartments on Irolo Street, it has a Wilshire address and is now part of Central Plaza. It was built in 1968 (10 years after the original Tishman buildings that face Wilshire), so would have been nearly new in 1971. Several of the foreground buildings on Mariposa are still there.
It looks like there are two intervening streets in the photo: Wilshire and Sixth. Could the photo have been taken from somewhere near Fifth and Catalina?

The building directly below the "Banana_Louie" watermark on e_r's photo is the extant 'The Victorian' apartments at 684 S Mariposa Avenue. The 1941 building permit says they were built as a hotel. The side of the extant 'Embassy' apartments (built 1926) at 702 S Mariposa Avenue can also be seen at the far right of e_r's photo.

Going by StreetView from Wilshire, that 's' has been missing since sometime between October 2012 and February 2014. It's not like there isn't another one there to copy!
Speaking of The Ambassador area, this is from a post E_R made back in Jan. 2012 (page 293). This is a shot facing west (ca. 1922) from 6th and Mariposa which is right around the corner from The Ambassador Hotel.
A caption for the photo says "The resurgent Arroyo de la Sacatela floods the intersection of Sixth Street and Mariposa Avenue."
In an article on KCET's website titled "Uncovering L.A.'s Lost Streams" they note: West of downtown Los Angeles, the Arroyo de Sacatela flowed south through present-day Los Feliz and Koreatown on its way to the inland cienega of the Ballona Creek watershed.
They link to an article on the Militant Angeleno website titled "A River Ran Through It: In Search Of Sacatela Creek," where he uncovers it's path. One notable passage: "The constant flooding of 6th and Mariposa was one of the reasons for turning the creek into a storm drain. Today, the 6th and Mariposa intersection is home to "DWP Distribution Station 61" and, until recently, an establishment called 'Creekside Cafe.'"
And speaking of L.A. rainstorms...this photo can be found in many places around the internet (including Getty Images), but the info is rather sparse,
except to name the paddler as Myrna Loy c. 1925.
There seems little to go on in hopes of finding the location.

e_r, the name Bill Buerge may trigger your recall: We had a short spate of postings (starting at #57217 on 6/29/2021 from GW, then including odinthor and Martin Pal as well) about the former clubhouse in Sylvia Park, which Buerge has been working on restoring (remember the cast iron gate?).
