another thing about Hoss' 1935 aerial.

I couldn't help but notice all the worn paths people had made while taking shortcuts through the numerous empty lots.

That is what I'm seeing, right? (foot paths)

A closer view of some other paths in the vicinity.

I'm going to be really embarrassed if these lines are something other than paths and shortcuts.

One more thing:

The shortcut that brought my attention to all the others is the path [shown below] near the accident bridge in the pic Hoss posted yesterday

You can download the complete aerial at mil.library.ucsb.edu (thanks Hoss)

Wait! There's one more.

A car path around the erosion.

See it?

I was bored so I labeled everything.

If my Secret Santa is reading this, I wouldn't object at all if you happened to give me a copy of the soon-to-be-released fully revised 6th edition of An Architectural Guidebook to Los Angeles.

Noirish Los Angeles needs a Secret Santa thingy.

I appreciate the follow-ups to the Bobbie Gentry post Slauson Slim...Martin Pal....and CBD.

I finally tracked down a photograph of that swim suit modeling job in June of 1962. [Bobbie Gentry is on the LEFT]

333sound

"6/29/62 -HOLLYWOOD: Cheryl Crane [R], the daughter of actress Lana Turner, begins her first job as a fashion model
at a nightclub on Sunset Blvd. Cheryl is with models Diane Lewis and Bobbie Gentry before the opening of the Friday event cocktail fashion show."

Hmmmm....but what club on Sunset? Does the place look familiar to anyone?

"It’s a truly remarkable photo, not only because it is a rare bit of visual evidence of Gentry’s early years gigging in Los Angeles, but because of why it was taken. This photo wasn’t snapped because Bobbie Gentry looked good in a two-piece, though she certainly did. The only reason the photo exists is because of the smiling girl in the center. from 333sound
BUT THIS IS WRONG. THE WIRE INFO. SAYS CHERYL IS ON THE RIGHT

I found a second pic.

BLURRY: from a tiny pic

bobbiegentry/org

"Bobbie Gentry modelling swimsuits in the early 60’s on Sunset Blvd with Lana Turner’s daughter Cheryl Crane (far right)" FROM bobbiegentry/org.uk
WTF. THIS WEBSITE ALSO SAYS THE GIRL ON THE RIGHT IS CHERYL CRANE.

OK, now I'm confused. [see below]

pinterest[/url]

"Cheryl Crane- Lana Turner’s daughter c.1960’s" from pinterest
THIS MATCHES THE PRESS INTERNATIONAL TELE-DESCRIPTION AT THE TOP

Will the real Cheryl Crain please stab...lol...I was thinking about the stompanato incident)....please stand up.

OK, I spy a '63 T-Bird, a '65 Corvair Corsa, a '68 Olds Cutlass (maybe); but what's the car we can see only the rear of at the far end of the row? And the tantalizing tail in the foreground? I know somebody knows.

That car at the end is a tough one...I see everything from pre-54 GM to Nash to who knows what. It appears tall...
and it looks like there's another car behind it.... Anyway, the Olds at center is a '65....

I think the car at the rear could be a mid '60s Volvo 122 sedan. As for the car in the foreground, I can't even decide if that's the front or the rear that we see.

That hotel has a new name. I sure hope they have removed that contaminated rooftop water tank. The thought of drinking water at that hotel causes me a noirish cold sweat.

A few more Ralph Crane photos from the Life Magazine archives....

Alfred Hitchcock and cast (including John Dall, Farley Granger and James Stewart) on the set of "Rope" at Warner Bros. studios, 1948.

Hollywood Blvd. looking east, 1951.

1950's...these officers are exiting the parking structure at Parker Center.

A few photos that I omitted from the young-actors-downtown post, as they were dupes of the same location...

Beaudry identified this as the Gloria Cafe, 109 W. 3rd St.

Beaudry located this news stand at the base of Angels Flight.

A larger image of the corner BillinGlendale i.d.'d as 5th and San Julian.

And one more scene staged at Hopper's home, this one finds Wood in peril...

Drag racing in the riverbed, 1960.

United States Senator-to-be Edward M. Kennedy back-to-back with Janet Leigh at "Key Women for Kennedy in California" rally, held at the Leigh/Tony Curtis home in Beverly Hills, 1960....possible that Teddy is adding some digits to his signature on that campaign hat?

Black cat auditions for Roger Corman's "Tales of Terror" film, 1961...presumably these are the offices of American International Pictures.

Peter Lorre and Vincent Price check out the cats.

A party given in honor of Twiggy at a home in Beverly Hills....April 1967...

Mr. and Mrs. Bono, Twiggy and her boyfriend/manager.

V.A. [1951]

I'd love to snoop around on the V.A. campus, but the google-mobile doesn't go there. (at least it didn't the last time I looked)

Hmmm...so what's the difference between Brentwood and Wadsworth Hospitals?

Does anyone know if it still looks this way? (or if it's still standing)

Is the theater still standing?

In this snippet from Cheryl Crane's autobiography, she says the club was The Summit which was located at 6507 Sunset Blvd.

Google Books - Detour: A Hollywood Story

The Red Velvet nightclub opened at 6507 when The Summit closed. It can be seen here in this watermarked stock clip from 1965.

6507 Sunset later housed the famous Club Lingerie, posted by HossC last April -
