^^^

The tabloids a couple of weeks ago made one of their many errors in exaggerating the FAA impact on these towers. I wouldn't worry, towers like this will not be 500 feet.

Likewise for MiamiCentral or any other projects. I think this one is a safe bet. Worst case scenario for the 4 or 5 supertalls in the pipeline is that we may see a reduction to 900 feet, but for this project, I'd say the current height or even a 1000 feet is a very safe bet, thats if they go that route.

If all goes well, Miami may have the 3rd most supertalls after NYC and Chicago. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me. 2020 will see a largely expanded skyline, both in width, and height.

My question is who is going to be filling up all these business towers? I understand the residential demand down there, heck its very nice down there.

Usual tenants consist of banks, law offices, real estate companies, and construction firms. Keep in mind though that these towers are not 100% filled in the first year. Like any tower, it could take years to reach somewhat full occupancy. International banks also reside in Miami and are some of the tenants that usually sign deals along with foreign financial firms.

If Miami had a supertall boom that would be awesome. It's hard to tell how serious all these projects are though and the FAA always trying to get involved doesn't help.

I'm sure at least one or two will go through though.

Takes time. I mean, as long as the economy is well, and the conditions are favorable like they are now, than its just a matter of waiting. I think the NYC super tall boom makes it seem like they can just go up, but a supertall can take a decade or more from conception to completion. Takes a really long time to get a tower such as this.

Miami Herald is reporting that the FAA has approved this tower at 1049 feet!!

Not quite as tall as I'd like it, but this will do!

Feds OK height for 80-story One Brickell City Centre tower
Quote:
A soaring 80-story skyscraper on Brickell Avenue won’t endanger airplanes flying to and from Miami International Airport if it is built, the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday.

“It is determined that the proposed structure ... would not be a hazard to air navigation,” the FAA wrote in a report issued to developer Swire Properties and obtained by the Miami Herald.

Swire had originally wanted to build One Brickell City Centre up to a height of 1,111 feet above sea level but settled for 1,049 feet after negotiations with the FAA, the agency wrote.

When built, One Brickell City Centre will be the tallest tower in Miami, according to Emporis, a website that tracks and ranks buildings.

The tallest building in Miami today is the Four Seasons Hotel & Tower (789 feet), but several developers have plans to outdo that height including Tibor Hollo at One Bayfront Plaza (1,010 feet) and Jeff Berkowitz at SkyRise Miami (1,000 feet).

The new Swire tower, designed by Arquitectonica, will include retail, office space, condos and a hotel. It is the centerpiece of the second phase of development at Brickell City Centre, a gargantuan, mixed-use project with a price-tag of $1.05 billion.

Swire will demolish the Eastern National Bank building at 799 Brickell Ave. and the former Northern Trust Bank building at 700 Brickell Ave. to make room for the project.

Miami-Dade County’s Aviation Department must also approve the tower’s height.

I hope this isn't the final design because it's horrible, and as the tallest tower in Miami, it will utterly Ruin the skyline.

I rather like the design. I've made peace with the fact that Miami is never going to get a spire.

I'm happy for the city. Another supertall. Well, if we can count Skyrise as one. Still, great height, and I too am kinda surprised the FAA didn't bastardize this.

Still waiting on One Bayfront Plaza to start up. That will be 1,010 ft.

The official height will be 1040 feet above ground level. Can the thread title be changed?

Fantastic news! Out of all of the proposals for a super tall I know Swire will actually build this and upon completion it will be the tallest tower in all of the Southern US!

I very much like this tower, the design might not be something out of this world but if the cladding is of the same quality as the rest of the Brickell City Center towers (they look sexy as hell) it will be a sight to behold. This is great news for us, we have been waiting for a serious supertall to be approved for a long time. With the FAA approval developers will be encouraged to pursue more 1000 footers.
