It's hard to see from these pictures, but Monday the rebar wasn't in place for the next floor columns, but Friday afternoon they were for the floor above. They finished 2 floors of the core or at least the framing moved up for the 2nd. So, they're finally putting up 1+ floors a week. At this rate, this one could be topped out in under a year. The funny thing about this building though is that the floor plates are getting bigger higher up. And the shifting layouts add complexity especially higher. We'll see. It's fun to watch this one unfold.

So much concrete on this one. Wow. From the core to the pillars. Even the interior walls in the lobby are 15" thick.

On the "alley" side, there's a concrete pump with a motor the size of a small locomotive. I suppose that'll be needed when they get to 600 feet. I always wonder how they clean out for the night the hose/piping extending that far up. If I've done the math right, there would be more than 15 yards of concrete—two concrete trucks—in an 8-inch pipe that's 600 feet long!

Right; but where do they dump all the leftover concrete? Truck it back to the readymix plant and make Jersey barriers from it before it sets?

They probably know pretty precisely how much concrete they’re going to need for the day.

Right; but I'm talking about the large amount of concrete left in the pipe at the end of the day. They clean from the top down.

Theres this big vacant lot right next to NEMA thats very unattractive. After this is done, will NEMA 2 start?

Crescent Heights still owns it, and mentioned they were starting to work on it in a Crain's interview maybe six months ago, but said it would be a couple years. They've got 640 W. Washington and the site at 420 N. May to work in the meantime I believe.

They (Crescent Heights) have yet to release any info or renderings on a second tower. I assume that will happen before any activity.

That'd be awesome if it could happen though. Rumor has it it'd be higher than the first one, which is just under 900 feet.

Facade Work Begins For 1000M Apartments In South Loop

Curtain wall glazing has begun installation for the 73-story 1000M apartment tower at 1000 S Michigan Avenue in South Loop. Developer trio JK Equities, Time Equities, and Oak Capitals have planned for a total of 738 rental units in this most recent iteration, which will stand 788 feet upon its completion.

To better match market conditions after a construction hiatus the developers had converted the plans from what was previously an 832-foot-tall condominium skyscraper with 506 for-sale units. As part of the re-scoped plans, the developers were able to secure a $304.5 million loan from Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.

Roughly half of the residences at 1000M will be studios, a quarter will be one-bedrooms, a fifth will be two-bedrooms, and the remaining units will be three-bedroom units. Penthouse offerings will reach sizes up to 3,000 square feet. There will also be 23 on-site affordable residences, comprised of 11 studios, six one-bedrooms, five two-bedrooms, and one three-bedroom.

McHugh Construction is serving as general contractor behind the project, with a full opening date targeted for 2025.

If this is why you quoted the article, McHugh was the one to use this number in one of their press releases, but it's probably just the height of the concrete core. For some reason Yimby ran with this number, but the consensus on here was to wait for official confirmation. We have yet to see that change confirmed by Jahn.
