Smile NEW YORK | East River Science Park - West Tower | 220 FT | 15 FLOORS

Work is underway on the west tower of the East River Science Park at 430 East 29th Street. The tower was supposed to be constructed in 2009, immediately after its twin was constructed. The foundation was poured, but the tower was put on hold due to the economic crash. Word is that Roche has agreed to anchor the new tower, and will move its research operations into Manhattan from New Jersey. The tower will total 410,000 SF along with adjacent lab buildings.

This is actually the not-twin-tower in the back of the complex that is being built now, after having a sitting foundation (http://goo.gl/maps/q3oqT). The twin is the north tower, and has had no work done. This will ultimately be 4 (3 new and 1 extant) buildings as such:

Just read the other day about Roche closing their Nutley facility. Didn't know where they were going, now I do. Looks good.

This will be a nice filler development between Bellevue Hospital and the NYU Medical Center.

Off topic for this thread, but NYU is also building an expansion a few blocks north of this: http://redaf.med.nyu.edu/project-pla...oject-overview

The East River Science Park expansion continues to rise. I was wrong, this isn't the twin of the existing tower along the river. This new building seems to be quite substantial nonetheless.

Demo underway for further expansions of the Science Park:

Work finally resumed in late 2012 and the complex's West Tower was formally "inaugurated" (the first week of October).
