Demolition continues. That arm / claw thing is really big.

I’m honestly surprised they’re not just blowing it up. It’s a hyooooooge building.

Too many neighbors, debris and dust mitigation would be a nightmare for a building you can reach with a shear.

This is going to take quite a while. Its a slow process cutting through the steel structure.

Agreed. At the rate demo is going - and similar to Phase I - it may take the better part of this year to fully clear the site.

Does anyone know if they plan to re-open Chestnut Street as work progresses deeper into the block? The single operable lane on 12th and Chestnut Streets is really a nightmare for vehicles and pedestrians.

considering they have to pay for taking a lane I would assume they will give it back as soon as it's feasible.

Demolition can be tedious. When we take down structures, it's done sections at a time. It's more efficient to separate materials section by section for recycling rather than knocking it down at once and then separating.

Is Chestnut Street reduced to one lane here??? I don't care how 'tedious' demolition is , that just is not acceptable. They can tear down and build buildings in other cities without closing sidewalks let alone traffic lanes. Why do we screw over our pedestrians, drivers and transit riders so much in this city?

Yes, and on weekends Chestnut has been blocked completely.

Agreed.

How the hell are you supposed to take a building like this down without closing a lane? I understand that builders can abuse sidewalk and lane closures but you really want people exposed to injury?

While it's inconvenient, the city survived theChestnut St. Pedestrian walkway experiment. At least this is one block and only for a couple of months.

It's done for safety reasons. Sorry.

Completely forgot about these. I’m willing to bet that between the first tower being residential and the second tower being fully leased by Jefferson, these will still happen despite COVID
