There are a total of three permits related to demolition at the development site. They are for 96 and 96 1/2 Red River:

https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=10978664
https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=10999546
https://www.austintexas.gov/devrevie...erRSN=10976900

96 Red River is a now abandoned warehouse:

96 1/2 Red River is a house:

The demolitions are on the part of the site where the 65-story tower would be.

Click on that tiny little image and you get a bigger version.
I had just figured this out right before you posted and was about to comment again...

Maybe we should take them seriously then, as this firm had a hand in all of the following:

W Hotel and Residences
Four Seasons Residences
Gables Park Plaza
Cirrus Logic

The rendering and design are not by them, but they have it on their own website. If you click there, you'll notice they're only doing:

Quote:
Site Development Permits
Off-site Water and Wastewater Extensions
Dry Utility Coordination
Water Quality and Detention Pond Design
Storm Sewer Design
Stream Bank Restoration
In other words, the design is already done by someone else and they're moving it along in practice for all intents and purposes. We may actually be able to take this project seriously.

Disclaimer: I posted this same response in the other Waller Center thread and the Projects and Construction thread.

Plan for three skyscrapers, including Austin's tallest, quietly progressing

The Waller Center, a $500 million development downtown at East Cesar Chavez and Red River streets, appears to be moving forward.

The project has shown up on local engineering firm Kimbell Bruehl Garcia Estes' website alongside a new rendering.

The addition of the engineering firm to the project is an indicator the buildings might actually go up; Kimbell Bruehl has worked on notable downtown projects such as the W Hotel and Residences and the Four Seasons Residences. The firm lists its responsibilities on the project as site plan development, storm sewer design and dry utility coordination, among other jobs

Are those new renderings?

If so, this project took a nosedive.

Yep, new renderings.

The office building looks outdated, the rest is okay I guess.

Yuck. Those look like some mid-90s Sim City inspired college project.

And actually some of those horizontal windows and the shifting facades with a mix of glass and stone remind me of mid-century design.

Also the color and angles remind me a bit of the Omni convention center hotel in Fort Worth.

These look more trendy to me, the previous rendering looks like it could endure style wise. What's the deal though the renderings are only a week or two apart?

Ugh. That office tower is terrible. Overall, there's just too much going on. I feel like I am tripping on acid if I look at the rendering for too long.

If you read SSP, go back to the original design. That thing was making me jealous that Austin gets all the good stuff. The new one makes me want to barf.
