That's the library of the Rijksmuseum. It's a bit tucked away.

Well, we stayed in the Rue Cler area. It was nice enough but nothing fantastic to tell the truth. It was convenient to transportation (Ecole Militaire metro I think), some relatively inexpensive resturants and small bakeries and cafes, and a short short walk to the Eiffel Tower. My experience anywhere as time goes by is to stay near convenient transportation and cheap food. We do not look to our hotel as anything more than a place to sleep and shower, and never really spend any time in the area anyway, as we leave early and stay out all day. You'll love Paris wherever you are.

I find the 7th arrondissement pretty boring.

I think the eastern parts of the 7th are interesting for an outsider, but, yeah, everything west of Invalides is too quiet, rich and residential to be of much interest for a tourist.
