WW2 Era Calgary Street Car Tickets

Friend of mine found these tickets in a box his Grandfather left behind. Included in the box were his WW2 dog tags which made him think these tickets were from the same time. He was stationed in Calgary prior to being shipped overseas, so I'm guessing late 30s, early 40s?

I suspect they are for the electric trolly system that use to run downtown including up Stephen Ave, but I thought someone here may have a better idea when these tickets would have been used:

Very cool. Would look good printed on a T-shirt.
I'd put a front of ticket and "get the street car habit" back side by side about the size of playing card a acoss the chest.

The street car system was dismantled by 1949, so that would be the latest they could date from. There was a temporary line established out to the Camp Sarcee at the corner of Glenmore and 37th street SW to serve the military. I'm not sure when that line was dismantled, if it was in service just during WWI or up to WWII as well.

You could talk to the Glenbow Museum about donating them, or to see if they have others that are dated to compare them to.

A cursory google search says that "Calgary Electric Railway" was the inaugural name for the streetcar system in 1909, and it only lasted for a little over a year before being renamed "Calgary Municipal Railway".

So maybe they're actually much older, and date all the way back to 1909-1910...

Very cool, thanks for the insight guys, we were also thinking that Glenbow may be a good home for these, but not if they just sit them in a box somewhere.

Sadly that's what happens to 90+% of museum donations. I don't know if these are unique/historic enough to merit a display (I mean I honestly don't know, I'm not using a euphemism for "I don't think").

My only thoughts about the Glenbow are, hasn't there been a bit of turmoil over there lately?

Maybe there needs to be a transit museum

Given that Heritage Park has the last one of these running they might be interested in them
