Grand Plaza is quite possibly the most horrifyingly bad manmade object ever created

This thing really stands out as you drive along Clybourn. Its sizing and location vs Vista from that angle make them look like dominating twins. It's a really cool visual.

I agree! It's funny too, because I really liked the renderings of Vista, but the finished product/execution...well if you've seen the thread, you know. Let's just say I feel underwhelmed.

But this, this thing is a beauty.

There's a couple of big 'ol Lifetime and Whole Foods exterior signs going up today on the corner of Dearborn and Superior.

I thought we were trying to have less giant signs on the sides of buildings? Not more? Also, these weren't in the renderings or shown in any public meetings that I am aware of.

Probably the least intrusive side to put the signs up on, fine with me.

Wow that is GORGEOUS! What an amazing change to that block. Its so much more engaging and energizing to the street level than the damn ugly parking lot that it replaced! Once people start moving in its really going to elevate the vibrancy level of that stretch of State + the immediate neighborhood!

Thanks for the pics, Kolchak!

Looks so cosmopolitan and elegant, love it. What a fantastic development.

Next they need to tear down that shithole mcdonalds next door and this could transform the whole area.

The next big one to drop around here will be the northwest corner of chicago and state with the parking lots. However it may last even longer with all that is set to be built at Moody.

Please correct if wrong but I heard that was owned by Loyola. Not sure how apt they are to sell.

I remember Lynn Becker writing an article "What's Wrong with River North" about all of those hideous beige towers sprouting like weeds

They will never sell, they intend to expand their downtown campus to the West into this area. They will likely retain ground and lower floors and partner with developers like they did at the Claire or with the apartment tower at Chestnut and State.

Jesus, that November angled sunlight makes One Chicago look like something out of a Gotham City comic book. Absolutely stunning!
