Can't wait until this one blocks the view of the Dobie Center tower fully from this direction.

That's a great pic - you really get a feel of the growing density of the west campus region. It's really becoming a whole 'nother downtown!

Question for you folks living in Austin: what is the area like at street level? Is there a lot of retail, bar, or restaurant activity going on?

I've passed by it sometimes. There's a good amount of restaurants on the street level but haven't really EXPLORED it

Not as much as I'd ideally like, but West Campus is arguably the most walkable (or bikeable) area in Austin -- perhaps tied with downtown. Unlike many buildings downtown, a lot of these buildings aren't tied up with huge amounts of parking, and given the lack of true "office" buildings in the area, there also aren't huge lobbies, etc.

There is a good mix of retail, bars, and restaurants in the area, as well as a good number of convenience stores (for obvious reasons). Though I would say that outside of the Drag (along Guadalupe) itself, the retail is somewhat few and far between.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be visting Austin for the first time in (gulp) eight and a half years, this October. I'll be spending at least 1/2 day checking out downtown, west campus, and maybe one or two other parts of town. I'll try to capture some interesting pics and will post anything which I think is worth sharing.

Stupid question Sunday: are all these projects in W campus for the college attendees or can anyone live there?

I just wonder if someday the entire neighborhood becomes its own thing without necessarily being associated with UT.

I think almost all for students - lots of 4+ bedroom apartments with the absolute shittiest finishes.
