Updated plans have the tower now at 50 stories, down from 54. There are conflicting reports on the height. Some saying 908' and some saying 850'. Change is not a downsizing. Space is the same. Floor height was decrease by a couple feet/floor. They also decided to build their data center at Will Rogers World Airport instead of on this site. Construction is on schedule with site work beginning in October this year.

architect5311 on OKCtalk.com posted these Sketchup models showing the reduction:

It's not that big of an impact on the look of the building, and it's still probably the most impressive construction project in the country at almost 2 million sf.

Construction has STARTED with an official ceremony taking place on TUESDAY. Hopefully a few more renderings to be released for the celebration- until then, here's a photoshopped skyline view

Groundbreaking was yesterday, this picture was taken today. They are wasting no time getting that parking deck ripped out, and architect reported we should see structural rise on the tower and podium by early 2010. We can also look forward to the vertical increase to the neighboring parking garage through the rest of this year.

Reports say that eventually 1,100 construction workers will be on the Devon site every day.

Current Cam Shot

Yeah this thread is way behind...thought I'd post a current cam shot from today. (Would post except can't figure out how to post images on this forum et) The main tower piers have been poured for the tower and they are currently excavating and preparing the site for the mat foundation (pier cap) that will form the base of the tower. They are working to drill and pour the support piers for the two tower cranes for this project in the coming day or so and the tower cranes should be set in the next week or so.

The parking garage has been doubled in size and capacity now at 10 stories high and a westward expansion is well underway. There was a delay yesterday as there was an accident on the West expansion of the parking facility where a precast concrete wall section shifted in the wind during a pick. The section hit one of the three precast concrete columns that was not secured with the double tee slabs yet and sent it tumbling. It hit another column and the two of them fell into the alley behind the site, adjacent to the downtown library. Missed the library by mere feet. They also landed between two parked cars! Additional damage was caused as the precast double tees the column fell on colapsed and likewise caused failure to the slabs below.

Devon estimates the delay on this area of construction at no more than one days worth of work. Fortunately there was no loss of life with this accident. the collapse was caught on security footage from the library. The footage is available on line.

Current Progress Shot

The mat foundation has been poured as well as some of the main columns in the basement level. The black is the thermal blankets to help retain the warmth generated by the curing concrete. We should see some dramatic changes to the site as it becomes more defined by structural elements such as cast in place walls and columns to support the next floor, while the foundation cures to the point it makes its design strength to allow them to move upward. This is exciting stuff!!
