SAN ANTONIO | Monarch Hotel | 220 FEET | 17 FLOORS | U/C

Was wanting to hold off on making a thread for this since there haven't been many official documents / details beside the developer renderings, but I have found multiple articles saying construction was due to start in December/ late fall. I'm assuming the approval this received was conceptual and we have not yet seen the final design (much like the residential tower) but it's really just a matter of time before this starts to go up. But if anyone has updates specific to this they at least post them on here

Construction starts next week on curved hotel tower in Hemisfair Park

The development will also include ground-floor spaces with restaurants, shops, and museums. There will also be retail opportunities.

SAN ANTONIO — Construction is set to begin next week on a new 17-story curved hotel tower in Hemisfair Park.

The hotel project is being overseen by Zachry Hospitality.  The development will also include ground-floor spaces with restaurants, shops, and museums as well as retail opportunities.

The hotel itself will include hundreds of residential units as well as 200 Hilton Curio Collection hotel rooms.

The hotel is being built during a multi-phase expansion and development of the Hemisfair area downtown that also includes the new Civic Park and its unique water features. The springs and fountains of the new park resemble the Acequia Madre, irrigation canals from when the land was used for farming.

Other upcoming improvements include an elevated area overlooking the Great Lawn, which served as a seating area for the popular Jazz'SAlive festival and a common area near the Torch of Friendship sculpture.

Zachry Hospitality will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new hotel on Tuesday, November 14. Construction is expected to be completed in 2025.

This just broke ground earlier today - it is being called the Monarch hotel and is expected to open in early 2026.

I won't believe this will actually be under construction until I see a crane or two flying. What an utter sh*t show this has been. Its a damn 17 story hotel... this should NOT have been this hard or taken this long.

When I walked by I saw crews putting up a fence around the guess area of the hotel tower, but they were also tearing up the old Convention Center walkup where the Source Plaza/Phase 2 will go.

It really is just so embarrassing that San Antonio can't have at least one new hotel open for one of the biggest events of the decade, but I suppose at least the eventual plaza in front of the hotel would be done so there is more gathering space for Final Four attendees.

tbh, we have plenty of hotels. It's unfortunate that it'll be a construction site but FF last time was awesome and hemisfair was just a big empty lot where the concerts were held. Loved seeing Imagine Dragons

I really like this interior, kinda gives me an upscale tatooine vibe. Not being negative about it, looks really good and not like other areas in the city.

The HDRC has finally posted all documents pertaining to construction, layout, etc.. This building tops out at exactly 201' which is honesty a bit shorter than I expected but it will scale almost exactly with the Palacio del Rios roof height (a bit shorter than that hotels mech. crown though). I'm going to try showing a few renderings on here directly to make it easier to view but apologies if there is any blurriness.

Here is each document link:

It's not astounding, but it's a decent design, and it will help fill in that gap a bit from certain angles. I give it a 7 out of 10.

What's the blue stuff on the roof?

You can see it on the IH37 at Alamodome traffic cam at TXdot. It won't let me post the image, but type "Alamodome" into the search bar. Then if you want to see the image larger, open it in a new window.
