Mystery businesses joining McAllister Place next spring

https://tj.news/story/101097813

(The screenshots below, are from Retail Talk & Share NB).

Lot's of good info here. I can't wait until the new retailers are announced. And it looks like the article also confirmed an opening date for Mountain Warehouse! It's set to open on Friday, Nov.29th. (It will be located in the unit between Envy and Boathouse), and the SJ location will be the first location in Eastern Canada!.

Aéropostale and Bluenotes are teaming up for a collaboration which will see "shop in shop" stores at select 75 Bluenotes locations on Nov.28th.

Here in NB: only the Saint John (McAllister Place) and Dieppe (CF Champlain) locations are going to have this "shop in shop". Source: https://blnts.com/pages/aeropostale-stores

Also, Aéropostale has future plans of an expansion of 20-30 freestanding new concept Aéropostale stores here in Canada (from the East to West Coast) in 2020!

I originally posted this in the Fredericton, NB Project thread and I will post it here as well (since the SJ location is also closed because of the same reason).

This now opens up new units at both malls. The Freddy one is (2,213sq.ft) and the McAllister Place one is (1,050sq.ft.). Hopefully both units will get filled again.

Some serious work needs to be done to revitalize Brunswick Square. I should mention all over the world malls in downtown areas aren’t doing well so it’s not a “Saint John thing”. Moncton lucked out demolishing their downtown mall for the avenir centre. Unfortunately I don’t think such option exist here, we just have to work with what we’ve got. Does anyone know who owns the place?

Interestingly, the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto is the busiest mall in North America. So it can really work, but in most instances it doesn't.

Eaton Centre works because it's a literal hub for the entire city. You can't get very far without crossing its path at some point. Brunswick Square has the same idea involved (urban, multi-level, in a solidly busy part of Uptown) but just needs some fresh bones and improved surroundings. The biggest issue with Brunswick Square, like most CBD malls, is that most of the patrons are gone after 5PM. The simple solution to aiding Brunswick Square is to simply have more residents living nearby and having better transit connections, along with hoping the average income of City residents increases in the near future.

On that note I was surprised to see the new Thai Express in the BS food court.

Residential density in the downtown seems to be the development trend these days. I know Moncton has some major incentives for developments of 10+ $million and has had several projects qualify, including mixed residential/commercial development. More residential close by would definitely be good for Brunswick Square.

Exactly this. Uptown SJ is supplied with commercial spaces to a magnitude that was meant to support both a higher core population and less competition from suburban retail. That's why we've seen such high commercial vacancy rates, particularly in Brunswick Square. The most important way forward is addltional residential density on the Central Peninsula to support a more balanced 24h population base.

Destination malls like the Montreal/Toronto Eaton Centres are obviously special cases, but with enough of a local population base and the right mix of services, even less prominent urban malls can thrive. I'm reminded of Complexe Alexis Nihon in Montreal's West End/Westmount, which in addition to the usual mall stores, also caters to the more daily utilitarian needs of the local population with a grocery store, Canadian Tire and pharmacy, and also includes a residential component to the development. Brunswick Square already has a pharmacy and could look to secure some other complimentary services for local residents as the area densifies.

While we're on the topic of Brunswick Square, I noticed that Booster Juice has been closed the last couple days. There's no note or anything that I could see, so no idea if the closure is temporary or permanent.

Maybe it's closed temporarily, because they are seeking new franchise owners? I only say that, because the franchising part of Booster Juice's website list Saint John, NB under the "National Opportunities" section. And that section's description says "locations available for resale". https://www.boosterjuice.com/franchise-opportunities/
