UPDATE

Yeah that is one awful building. It's a student residence, I believe for the ETS.

What's worse is that it makes itself quite prominent on Peel street.

Let's hope District griffin 3 will obscure it good.

It's not awful, but merely serviceable. It has good density. District Griffin phase 3 will make it less noticeable, for sure.

Rico, many thanks for the grand tour.

It looks as though they may be diverting the canal into smaller waterways in certain areas for scenic purposes... or am I hallucinating? It seems like this is what's occuring around bassins du Havre where new streets are popping up.

In any case, this area is turning out quite nicely. So much so that I just bought a condo near Wellington and Sucrerie street. Chose that side of the canal because for the most part prices seem a lot more affordable for the moment, and I'm assuming that won't remain the case for much longer.

My new home is right beside the Nordelec, which I am really hoping sells well - a thousand or so new middle-class residents would help remedy the lack of commercial offerings on Centre street at the moment.

Anyhow, I'll be contributing some interesting photo angles from my rooftop terasse in the near future - moving in next month

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy it. This neighborhood will be quite something in a few years.

I understand it's old, but I don't think this house (or the other buildings) is worth preserving. They're all crying foul now, but where were they when these buildings were disfigured? They're too far gone, IMO. Considering that the Carré de la Montagne turned out OK, I'm glad that they are redeveloping this corner.

Plans to demolish Griffintown’s oldest house raise concern

MONTREAL — Griffintown could lose part of a rare 19th-century streetscape if a developer gets permission to tear down a row of buildings on de la Montagne St.

Condo-builder Maître Carré has requested a demolition permit for a row of 19th-century buildings at 161-175 de la Montagne that includes the oldest house in Griffintown.

Plans submitted to the Sud-Ouest borough propose to demolish the row of buildings to make room for a 10-storey condo project.

If the demolition is approved, the developer has offered to reconstruct the tiny house at 175 de la Montagne and integrate it into the future development.

Julie Nadon, chief of the borough’s urban planning division, said plans for the proposed project are not being made public. “It’s confidential,” she said.

Nadon said the borough’s demolition committee has not yet set a date for a public hearing on the request, which was filed Oct. 28, but she predicted it will probably take place in March.

Nothing to cry fowl for. This is simply the ugliest part of Griffintown because it is very visible to the thousands of motorists coming off/to the wellington bridge and from de la montagne street. I agree, it's too far gone. Way too far gone.

I wonder why st Henri and the Point remained relatively intact while Griffentown fell into such disrepair. A shame really.

Sorry for posting in an old thread, but here is a webapp where you'll find all current residentials projects in Griffintown. Of course, it doesn't include other projects like commercial one, but right now pretty much all projects are condos.
