Correct. The west extension runs toward the capital via Washington and Jefferson (one-way streets). This is "Central Station" in name only really. It is located on the block where all of the bus lines basically used to converge downtown (that may still be the case), and there are light rail stations on either side of this site but only for the main existing line. People won't transfer to the west or south line extensions there.

That's my understanding at least.

Yes, Astra. A new tallest at 535 ft. Latest rumblings is that it is expected to begin construction Q3 of this year.
Considering this was written last year, is it dead?

Sometimes these big projects run into delays, but I haven't heard that Astra is dead.

There is a new forumer posting a couple nice construction updates for downtown Phoenix - halicem.

But first, check out this webcam of the ASU downtown campus. It's a nice quality webcam and shows a great view of the newer northern downtown towers as well as the cranes for the large tower project - Realm. To the far right you can see the Central Station project (2 towers)... click to expand to full screen.

Aforementioned Central Station construction pic on the far left (courtesy of forumer halicem):

And a new picture of the Palmtower Residences project - also courtesy of halicem.

Astra update!

After years of waiting, the developer finally gave a huge update. They are indeed going forward with the entire project but it has gotten a major redesign. The taller one has been tweaked a little but the biggest change is for the shorter one and it looks very cool. The final height is 541 feet for tower 1 and 425 feet for tower 2. It's great to see Phoenix get some quality architecture!

Very recent shot of downtown with loads of construction ongoing.

Unfortunately its a picture of a brand new giant Chik Fi let but ill take what I can get.

Fore Reference Astra from this angle will be right in front of and obscure the old Chase tower when its built (hopefully starting in 2024)

That's good, Astra is way better looking.

Any updates on this? I thought it was supposed to start Q1 2024 if I'm not mistaken.

The most recent update I've seen said Q2 2024:

https://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/...atch-2024.html

Quote:
Downtown Phoenix is a hotspot for multifamily development, including a long-planned mixed-use development known as Astra Phoenix for property tax abatements for the project. The developer, Aspirant Development, previously said it would start work in Q2 on the two-phase project with 697 apartment units, a 229-room hotel, 36,000 square feet of commercial space and 185,000 square feet of office.
