I'm assuming the horizontal beams at the top are construction/safety barriers and will be removed on completion? If so I think the crown will look fantastic.

It's pretty much according to the latest rendering. The spires still could be a little higher, but the tower is great either way.

^^ The "railings" are part of the crown in the second rendering above.

It looks like they're just gonna put some glass on those. I'm sure it'll be fine.

They are not, the highest level of the parapet with the clearly visible semi transparent glass is the same highest level as depicted in the render.

What you see as the "railings" are temporary support structures for the façade maintenance equipment being used to install the glass on the crown/parapet.

That is correct. But the point I'm making is that they're too stubby either way.

But this design, which is still glorious, has evolved a lot over time...

Oh, I fully agree with your sentiments, I liked the "2nd" iteration the most as the crown had 2 more setbacks and made it seem less bulky and the finials were taller and feathered out more, the first scheme was a little too literal with the art deco inspired crown.

But my comment was mostly just correcting Jack's incorrect inference.

The 4th picture down was the magical one for me . .
an architectural forest of tall spikes gracefully continuing upward . .
beyond the slender dark silhouette of the solid building . .
departing the roof at precise points of visual vertical momentum . .
into the airiness of sky . . finishing off 9 DeKalb in an almost
musical exuberance & simplicity of completeness . .
this skyscraper’s crown could’ve equaled the effectiveness
of any crown in the city . .
. . but its not quite finished yet, so here’s hoping the stubs
get considerably more striking . .

yeah it was better and more neo-gothic when it had the taller, feathery spikeys.

that's ok -- the crown look is still close.

The City deserves it. There is a lot that we miss.

^^ You can see the former tallest and new tallest in Brooklyn in that photo. It's fitting that finally a building with a worthy Gotham City design holds the title once again.

Those big box retail sites lower left are next on the list. Amazing they're still there on such a prime site directly over Atlantic Terminal.

As for 9 Dekalb (which most of the locals will continue to call it) the facade turned out even more amazing than expected, can't wait for the base to open! The top turned out a bit more understated, a bit more gothic revival than art deco, but looks good in the flesh.

If you'd have shown me a rendering of what DT Brooklyn was going to look like 20 years ago I'd have asked to buy some of what you're smoking - truly amazing. Remember after 9/11 when the press and pundits thought both NYC and tall buildings were "over"? Happy to say they were very, very wrong.
