At least 90% of areas in Sarawak to have high-speed Internet facilities by 2022
Bernama September 06, 2021 15:26 pm +08
Quote:
KUCHING (Sept 6): The Sarawak government, with the cooperation of various quarters, hopes to have at least 90% of the areas in the state to have high-speed Internet facilities by 2022.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said this will be implemented in collaboration with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS).

He said the importance of connectivity is emphasised in the implementation of Sarawak's Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), which he announced in July and should be utilised by civil servants in delivering their services to the private sector and the people.

"This development strategy will bring the people of Sarawak to experience rapid development, thus improving the socio-economic well-being of the people with more access to economic opportunities," he said when opening the Sarawak Land and Survey Department’s (JTS) Innovation and Integrity Day.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari called on other government agencies in the state to emulate the steps taken by the JTS in establishing strategic cooperation with institutions of higher learning to carry out research and development (R&D).

He was referring to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the JTS and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to set up the JTS-UTM satellite laboratory for R&D through the sharing of technology, expertise, training and research opportunities.

"This cooperation will not only benefit UTM in understanding the real situation in the industry but will also provide huge benefits to the JTS to conduct more thorough and detailed research," he added.
