Coronado, CA and a blurb of San Diego's North Park neighborhood

Since we had the day off Friday (11.25.2022), my partner and I took a day trip down to Coronado, and later in the evening went to San Diego's North Park neighborhood.

So, some random pics...

Bread and wine. No, it ain't Mass.

I had a buckwheat crêpe with smoked salmon and spinach inside.

For dessert, my partner had a mille-feuille.

I had a tarte tatin.

Let's take a walk...

...to the Hotel del Coronado, Coronado's most distinctive landmark. A huge Victorian-era hotel, it opened in January 1888. It's still a seaside resort hotel. It's quite nice. Of course it's reputed to be haunted. Presidents have stayed here over the past hundred-something years or so, and the 1958 Marilyn Monroe film "Some Like it Hot" was filmed here, though the movie was set in Florida.

We heard a lot of Midwestern accents; must be a really popular place to stay during this time of year for people from that part of the US. We heard some Dutch tourists too. We didn't really hear other languages being spoken.

On the San Diego Bay side of Coronado, you get a good view of the downtown San Diego skyline. Years ago, my partner and I went here for the 4th of July and watched the fireworks here over San Diego Bay and the skyline.

What is it with restaurants in tourist areas that always have to have burgers for those people who only wanna eat burgers? And that cocktail looks like antifreeze.

North Park, San Diego

North Park is kind of a fun little funky neighborhood.

It looks like the weather is just perfect, I love Coronado and could easily live there if it was affordable to my income. We actually had plans to be in San Diego this past week but our whole family is just recovering from Covid, thanks to someone in my son’s class infecting him and bringing it home to us.

I’ve never been inside the hotel and only passed by it. One day I have to go check it and, the photos you captured of the interior looks like it’s quite beautiful. Did you take the ferry over to downtown San Diego? If not you should check it out.

The weather always seems to be perfect in San Diego. Sorry to hear your whole family caught Covid!

I like Coronado too, and the funny thing is, it always seemed somewhat sleepy in past visits, but on this particular day, it was pretty crowded. My assumption is because of the long weekend, and I'm very sure people many people were visiting from out of town. The inside of the Hotel Del is very nice, you should check it out some time. I've actually never taken the ferry from/to San Diego/Coronado, I definitely should check it out some time!

Great tour! Coronado is a beautiful little neighborhood. I had breakfast once at one of those cafes in their business district and had a few military jets screaming a few hundred feet above. Did you notice any jets?

Great photos! Good spot for a nice view of the skyline and military jet spotting as well.

I suppose staying in famous hotels such as the Del can be rather annoying when the public areas are overrun by looky-loos!

One of these days I will stay at the Del.
