Random photos, taken within the last 3 days... Tag along conmigo.

Visited my parents some days ago, saw this squirrel on the sidewalk by their house---the house I grew up in.

The glazed tile floor of the entryway in my parents' house, original to the house, which I realize is already 44 years old.

Another day, another neighborhood...

Going to lunch...

At our go-to Spanish place.

Spanish olives.

Patatas bravas and albóndigas.

Pintxo champiñones con gambas.

Basque cheesecake and a café cortado.

Jerez.

And now this evening (Tuesday, 11.9.2021), dinner and dessert.

Pinot grigio.

Dungeness crab roll and salad.

Braised kale.

On our way to get dessert. Just a quick walk to the next block.

Nice that cheesecake and cappuccino looks delicious.

I was in Pasadena a couple weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon and visited The Urth Cafe, very good espresso. It was the first time I visit this location, I used to go to the one in the Artist District several years ago but now it’s gotten too popular so I avoid it now. There is one now in Hawthorne I’ve never been inside and only ordered espresso beans online and do curbside if I’m in the area It’s in a warehouse park of town and I think that’s the main headquarters because it has what looks like offices and a loading dock. I just hope they open up one in the west San Fernando Valley.

I'm curious... When you do these "slice of life" photo threadlets, how are you getting those pictures? With a phone or with an actual camera?

The Pasadena location is often crowded. I'm actually surprised Urth Caffe doesn't have a location in your area, Woodland Hills seems to be the perfect candidate for one, or at least one in Encino or Sherman Oaks.

I use an actual camera, but it's not a fancy one. I actually got it earlier this year, at the end of January. I was using an older camera last year; going through the whole thread, you can see that in the photos from last year, the dimensions and even the size of the images are different. I don't know why, but the flickr site I've been using shows the images really big on the new camera.

Do you ever get looks from people when you're doing a daily life thread with a camera? I've wanted to do that, but people stare if you just whip out your Nikon at supper.

Sometimes, but then they just glance and then look away. The camera I have isn't big, so sometimes I can be discreet about it. And often at dinner in restaurants, most people are into their conversations and aren't looking around, or you even see people taking pictures of food with their phones and nobody thinking twice about it, we being in this Instagram/social media age.

I went to the LA Auto Show on Sunday (11.21.2021) and took TONS of pictures of cars... but I'll only post a few of them...

A Vietnamese car company. They wanna start selling a couple of EV models in the US.

My favorite to look at, the new Nissan Z. Though I'd never buy a Nissan.

Outdoor obstacle course.

Looked at a lot more cars, but I'm not gonna get into it here...

After all that walking around the LA Convention Center, we had a nice coffee dessert---Espresso, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Kind of like an affogato, I guess.

Random photos I took today (Saturday, 12.11.2021).

Ventura Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley. At 18 miles long, it supposedly is the world's longest avenue with contiguous businesses.

Very random restaurant/drink place shots (I was bored and decided to post). What can I say, we love to eat out. All of these are places we've eaten at, and continue to eat at. Except that Korean bbq place on the corner. Never eating there again. At least not anytime in the near future. Rude ass waiter.

I was drawn to this one by the shapes and imagery; I saw the gun, the brush, and then when I read the name of the piece, I really liked it: "Social Consequences II: Choices We Make." Choices we make indeed. 2009, acrylic and stickers on paper. The artist is Otobong Nkanga.
