Wow, looks exactly like the new St Pauls. They really aren't taking advantage of views to Minoru park next door. Not sure what "tower" it's replacing since the site only appears to have one-storey buildings at the moment

Seemed like this was a proposal in 2018 but this looks like a new rendering?

CIBT was also involved in the Atmosphere project and they said this:

Quote:
Toby Chu, Chairman and CEO of CIBT Education Group Inc. (TSX: MBA, OTCQX International: MBAIF) (“CIBT” or the “Company“), has issued a statement in response to a news article recently published about the ongoing development and delays of the Atmosphere Project in Richmond, B.C.

“In March 2018, CIBT’s subsidiary, Global Education City (Richmond) Limited Partnership, purchased two of the seven buildings to be constructed at the Atmosphere Project,” said Toby Chu. “Please refer to the Company’s news release of April 3, 2019 for an overview of the Atmosphere Project: https://cibt.net/blog/2019/04/03/cib...ty-richmond-2/.

“While it is unfortunate that the developer has been unable to meet its construction schedule, CIBT plans to take all actions open to it so that the Atmosphere Project can fulfill its original purpose,” continued Mr. Chu. “We see excellent opportunities in Vancouver’s booming real estate market and the Atmosphere Project has many positive attributes and could become another flagship project for CIBT’s subsidiary, Global Education City Holdings Inc.”

The Company expects to provide additional information about the status of the Atmosphere Project in the coming weeks.

whats the story on the Richmond Centre condos?

I see this online >>

This is it. Your first opportunity to purchase a home in Towers 5 and 6 within phase one in RC at CF Richmond Centre - Richmond’s most dynamic master planned community. Best of all, these towers offer exciting new floor plans and are closest to Minoru Park and a lively central plaza.

https://everythingatrc.com/master-plan/

are they starting Phase 1 in the new year? As with 4 towers sold out ..... you would think it would be easy to get this project going.

Didn't someone say that the sales went really well on the project? They have to build all the underground parking and retail first. Phase one is 7 towers I believe.

Phase 1 (the first 7 towers) has sold very well and construction is now underway on all seven towers, which will be progressing as one large phase with a few sub-phases, given the size of the project.

Going to be a very busy site for the next 4 or so years, lots to add to the crane count!

Not really from my perspective... and this is based on technicalities and semantics.

What whatnext posted suggests that people in Richmond don't work in Richmond. Generalizing the population of Richmond based on a stereotype and interpreting whatnext's statement as being racially charged is actually on you.

Besides, another way to interpret his comment would be that BC's largest employment centers are in Vancouver and on Broadway street so therefore this statement could actually be applied to the rest of the region outside of the COV since a lot of people actually commute to Vancouver to work. Richmond isn't developing as many employment centers afaik so it does bring to question where all of these individuals are working - as it would for any other Metro Vancouver municipality.

I will agree with you, Vin, in that it was an out-of-pocket comment but I really don't see it being blatantly racist. If whatnext's subtext was that he was sarcastically suggesting that there was a whole heap of money laundering happening in Richmond (which is a fact about all of Metro Vancouver), that still has nothing to do with race since anyone can be a money launderer. I would suggest next time to call them out by getting them to expand on their point; then you can watch them dig themselves out of the hole they dug for themselves or you can have a more open dialogue with the individual if you misinterpreted the comment. Of course you retain the right to free speech but I think that a more fruitful dialogue that would benefit both of you could have been developed with more questions instead of accusations .

Coming from a non-white person, these kinds of over-sensitivities to perceived racial remarks need to be approached differently in conversations; for example, more questions, not accusations, need to be introduced in these conversations. It's doing more harm than good at this point for the last 2-3 years and I personally see society moving backwards with all of this woke PC crap since racial tensions are higher than ever.

Lol, Everybody knows how whatnext feels about the Chinese here. What questions do you even need ask? What conversation is there to be had? whatnext won't even say that your interpretation is what he meant. Letting alone to have you come to his rescue, then turn around to accuse the people who pointed out the bigotry as the real racist. What are you even doing?

Richmond actually has a very large commercial and industrial base. It has big port and transloading operations. Not to mention the airport, lots of cargo, Canada Post, and a lot of finance, trade, and cultural services. Plus the huge retail and restaurant scene. It is certainly not a bedroom community or lacking employment.
