48-hours in Alexandria, VA

Visited Alexandria, VA in November. Lovely little city and lovely time of year to visit! The satellite city of Washington DC almost feels like a neighborhood or extension of DC, but definitely packs a punch and offers enough to stand on it's own. We spent all of our time in Old Town. Enjoy the journey

Looks like a good time! I went down to Alexandria every now and then when I lived in DC, it's a great place to wander around. Outside of DC itself, Alexandria may very well be my favorite city in the DC area (though I do appreciate Arlington and I'm a fan of Bethesda too).

Always liked Alexandria, but haven't been there in about 8 years.

For such a cool old city on the Potomac, the waterfront was always terribly disappointing. Have they made enhancements lately?

It's definitely better now. Hopefully summersm343 doesn't mind me posting a photo I took a few months ago, but this is a new waterfront park where King Street meets the Potomac.

And here's what it looked like five years earlier with a parking lot along the waterfront...

Thank you for the charming tour! Are there places to stay the night that are in walking distance of this area?

I like seeing so much brick everywhere, even on the sidewalks and streets. Very colourful place, both literally and figuratively. The older they get the more colourful they get somehow.

Glad you enjoyed!

Yes, there's at least a few hotels right in Old Town. My wife and I stayed at the Alexandrian.

Nice!

The waterfront has gotten better, but it's still a little underdeveloped IMO. They're making progress though. And pedestrianizing lower King Street has been great.
