I think Toronto has a variety, it’s just overwhelmed by the large condos which steal all the attention. I mean in terms of mid-rise variety Toronto is right up there in Canada.

Too many picture you say, haha! I guess I could spread them out across more posts, but it’s not like you see a lot of Victoria photos here. I see more Montreal Instagram pictures in a single post, but I also enjoy those. But thank you Rousseau for the constructive feedback - I’ll delete a dozen or so photos, repost below and delete the original thread. Good exercise in pruning and prioritizing

This again ? I can’t have a break can I ? My single instagram post in the last page had 21 pics. The one before had 17 pics, and the one before that had 8 pics. Your post above has more than 50. It’s usually the pattern. And my pics are very light too. Cheers!

You see, for me this is an example of how you can make a really nice really interesting skyline without a sea of really tall boring condo/office buildings. Quebec City does this too. To me, this skyline is more beautiful / interesting than most Canadian skylines.

Rico - great shots! Love your black and white style, it goes so well with a big city and the snow! This shot is wild - the way the smoke is ’reacting’ to the Olympic Stadium tower. It almost looks like a shark emerging from the ocean to devour the stadium Ha, now that I look at it in that context the stadium tower also looks like a giant face shooting frickin lazer beams into the stadium roof (giant squid!). I swear I haven’t had anything to drink this morning..

Untitled by Dominic Hains, on Flickr

Also I agree with your view on skylines, I’d rather have the finer detail, colour, historic buildings that big blocky concrete monsters as the skyline facing the waterfront. As tall buildings are restricted in this area it’ll never be an impressive North American skyline from this location anyway. The new 20+ storey buildings going up a few blocks behind this will be hardly visible at all, or if they are just provide a bit of a backdrop.

Martin - you left out a key point I made (added back in bold):

“I guess I could spread them out across more posts, but it’s not like you see a lot of Victoria photos here. I see more Montreal Instagram pictures in a single post, but I also enjoy those.”

It was not meant as a criticism of your posts, but that I enjoy longer photo posts as well. Well, shorter ones now I suppose as you’ve cut them back as you said.

Also thanks CSBvan - the Centennial Square with the palm tree one is also one of my favs - those 1960’s stylings have stood the test of time.

Nice pics Rico. I’m trying to use my camera more instead of the phone - there is a notable difference, but phones are still versatile and better than having no pics at all.

What is the story on this interesting building? Government office? Newish or newly reclad?

Looks like it has 4 eyes and a set of fake-smiling teeth.

And that it might grow!

This is the ITHQ, Quebec's national school for hotel and tourism. It's got fancy restaurants, class rooms, and a boutique hotel. This building is infamous. It was the first building to receive the prix citron in 1976, an award given out to Quebec's worst architecture.

It was recladded in 2005 like this:

https://www.ithq.qc.ca/50/images/con...toire/2005.jpg

For what it's worth I think it's an improvement, and yet I still don't like it. Like, at all.

We would've all been better served had they not demolished what was there before 1976.

Wow..

What a loss to a deserved prize ‘winner’ to this newest iteration. Which I don’t mind! Sticking with the sea monster theme it looks like a Giant Robotic Japanese Squid.
