There won't be too many new projects breaking ground for the next year or two. One is the 12 floor UNC Charlotte uptown building. Another will be the 17 floor Hotel Sierra on Trade street adjacent to the arena. It is set to break ground by the end of the month. Here is a new rendering:
Nice shot. I hope they keep the building Dixie's is in when they build the new park. Having the park across the street from the children's museum is a good idea. I heard today that the other First Ward projects (including the park) will start in Jan 2010.

The plans I've seen include keeping the Dixie's Tavern building.
Part of the park will have a parking garage underneath that will service the 12 floor UNC Charlotte building. Construction is supposed to begin in January on the deck/park.
Another bit of good news, the 12 floor UNC Charlotte building now has a tower crane going up. It, along with the 1st Ward Park, are scheduled to be competed by Fall of 2011:
^It's funny how it you go back 20 years, Tampa's skyline was about the same as Charlotte's... But now, DT Tampa isn't even in the same league as DT Charlotte...
Charlotte and Minneapolis are two skylines I can think of that have had extreme changes in a relatively short time. Of course Miami is another one. I was watching that movie "Flight of the Navigator" which was filmed in Miami in 1986, and of course the changes have been huge since then. It's been fun watching. What's so nice about Charlotte is that just about every new building they've had in the last 20 years are of high quality. I'm a huge fan of the Bank of America Corporate Center and Hearst Tower.
