^ It's so embarrassing that that project didn't get finished as intended. I get the uproar over the "sky palace", but this is different—that ice rink would be a public amenity open to everyone. And if they aren't going to put the money in to finish the ice rink, at least do something. Put some tables, chairs and fire pits out and offer vendor permits for coffee/food trucks. Once the summer is over that plaza looks/feels like an arctic wasteland.

I dont like the planned location of the Zamboni building. It blocks the front centre view up and 108 St. Just my opinion.

Celebrate the cold with Front Yards in Bloom: Winterscapes

January 10, 2020

The freezing temperatures have arrived, but don’t let that stop you from making your front yard a winter wonderland. The City of Edmonton’s Front Yards in Bloom: Winterscapes program is back to recognize Edmontonians who beautify their neighbourhoods and build community spirit.

A winterscape can include snow, ice, lights, ornaments and winter-themed scenery. Individuals, families and teams can participate by building a winterscape in their front yard or in a public space. Participate by filling out the nomination form and submitting a photo of your own or someone else’s winterscape at edmonton.ca/winterscapes. There are exciting prizes to win each week.

Entries and nominations will be accepted from January 12 to February 17. At the end of the program, all submitted photos will be posted on the City of Edmonton’s Facebook page for voting. The winterscape with the most votes in each category will move onto the final round of judging by the Front Yards in Bloom: Winterscapes committee.

Honest question: Has this 'strategy' made you love winter more, be more active, learn or experience new things?

As a first timer making a backyard rink (apparently it has become incredibly popular this year -- which is awesome) i really appreciate tsn 1260's "flooding in the dark" anthem they just created a few days ago.

https://soundcloud.com/thenielsonsho...ark-odr-anthem

There is nothing that makes winter more enjoyable than having your own private rink a few steps away from the back door.

I'd love to do a count on how many public outdoor skating rinks (not community rinks) the GTA or GVRD has open versus our city as of today.

How we didn't put an ice plant in at City Hall when it opened, let alone during the redo is beyond me.

You can often skate in front of Toronto's city hall for 2-3 months each year and generally 2-3 for ours in a much colder climate.
