It's officially fenced off. The Eastside Trail Gateway to Historic Old Forth Ward Park is no more. RIP Aug 2014 — Jul 2020

Had a pretty good run! I used it very frequently and, while I'll miss it, I'm very glad to get the old Georgia Power property developed. I would have preferred enlarging the park, but that certainly wasn't in the financial cards.

They are actively working the site again after a few weeks of absolutely nothing. If you live nearby, get ready to wake up early for at least the next year.

Thanks for the update, trainiac.

General note, a portion of the GA Power site will include a new public space, maintained by the developer, but deeded or dedicated (I forget the wording) to the city to never be redeveloped. Jim Irwin compared it with pretty high profile spaces across the country, so I expect it will be an interesting add to the area. Water feature, live entertainment, food trucks, community gathering space, that sort of stuff.

And as happy as I am new city is advancing with their project, I too will miss the gateway trail. IMO, that trail was so inviting and made it easy for anyone nearby to access the BeltLine. I made sure to ride and walk it a handful of times recently in anticipation of its demolition. While I do appreciate that New City proposed a replacement ramp, which was rejected by the parks department, I would have preferred the trail was retained in addition to the project.

Wow, this looks awesome. I wish they painted those poles green to blend in.

Are those new poles? I can't remember what GA Power was doing here - are there now buried utilities to the left side of the trail in that pic? Perfect route for transit if we ever get to that point.

Sorry, dumb question, but what do you mean by 'for sale units'?

I think you mean “what does the BeltLine DRC consider to be for sale units” I found the phrasing to be a little odd, too.

One site is listed as condos and triplex. Another I’m guessing is condos, as it has 1, 2, & 3 BR units proposed over 5 acres, though I haven’t seen the site plan and don’t recall what may have been filed with the city. For reference, Skylark was 7+ acres. 5 acres is still pretty massive. It’s larger than a block in midtown. 1105 West Peachtree, the whole block of office, condos, and hotel is less than 4 acres.

As opposed to for rent. A developer is building units to sell to an end user such as condominium units, townhomes, or single-family detached housing.

Bridge for Peachtree Creek
I'm not sure exactly where this bridge is going, but according to the tweet it will connect the Beltline to the Emory area. We are getting closer to a truly connected regional bike network. It's astonishing to look at multi-use trails 10 years ago compared to now.

The "Project Context" slide (#6) is very helpful for tracking everything. Although I wish it labelled interim trails. Some of the "in design" sections are level dirt paths you can walk, and some aren't accessible yet.

I agree with all of this. I’ve added my extra critical view below.

IMO, despite the nice map addition, whoever approves the presentations has been missing the mark for some time now. It’s getting better, but come on we are over 15 years into ABI’s existence. Effectively communication and displaying where the project exists and its extents should be the top of their priority. How are they not guiding everyone to AGOL web apps on a routine basis.

It is kinda weird they have a whole welcome center on the Beltline (imagine how much that costs!) but they can't get an intern to make a simple Google map to track activities.

They also said back in May that the design would be complete in the summer for the portion of the trail that runs from the end of "hairpin" behind the Ansley Publix to Westminster Drive, where the Piedmont Park maintenance facility is located. It's supposed to be shovel ready and they were hoping to get funding in the 2021 fiscal year (which began in July) to cover construction. Does anyone know if they were successful in getting funding for that? It'd be awesome to have a fully paved trail from Westminster and the north end of Piedmont Park all the way to Mason Street at the Buford Connector.
