Atlanta Photos

I've got a several photos I've taken over the last year from Atlanta, and figured I'd post a few.

First some panoramas from the top of Stone Mountain, taken a few days ago.

Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead. Scroll >>>>>>>>>>>

Downtown

Midtown

Buckhead

These next ones were not from the top of stone mountain (just in case you were wondering), and are from a month or two ago.

Terminus 100:

One Atlantic Center:

From Midtown:

Ernst & Young Building at Allen Plaza, Downtown:

Some Midtown shots, from about a year ago. I'd meant to post them earlier, but got sidetracked. (Atlanta skyline shots become dated quickly.) I'd love to see the difference that ViewPoint and 1010 make now. These were taken from my room at the Marriott Marquis.

Next, inside some John Portman hotels downtown. First is the Hyatt:

Next, the Westin Peachtree Plaza.

And the Marriott Marquis:
(note: this is during the remodeling, which I think they've now finished, so it probably looks a little different now in the Atrium.)

Now we'll drive 3 miles to the east to end the day at the concert on the square in the city of Decatur.

I can't even see all of these photos (anything on flickr gets blocked at work) but they're stunning - I think I like the view of downtown better from Stone Mtn than from Mt Wilkinson. Decatur's looking like quite the vibrant little downtown as well.

Post these in city photos! (please )

Thanx Ryan. The Buckhead shots really bring out the fullness of it

No kidding. That's the best I've ever seen Portman's work look. I've got a new appreciation for the Hyatt -- very nice

Cosmoboy, thanks. I'm using a Nikon D50 (kind of an older model now), with Sigma 10-20mm, and Nikkor 28-200mm lenses.

If only every MARTA station could have that kind of vibrancy surrounding it.

Decatur totally rocks.

Ryan, thanks for giving John Portman his due in these photos, too. I've never been crazy about his architectural style but in my opinion he is often unfairly maligned. For one thing, he put Atlanta on the map. He also stuck with downtown when other developers were fleeing to midtown, Buckhead and beyond.

And as your photos show, his work is certainly not without artistic merit and vision.
