Oh god, you're right. My extended family rented a couple of condos for a week in Myrtle Beach back in 2012. So many Ohio license plates in the parking garages...

My response as a pretty much lifelong Atlantan who's traveled to all parts of Florida so many times I can't count them, and who has two sisters living down there, I'd say yes Florida is the south EXCEPT for Miami-Dade and possibly Broward.

That’s what I’m saying. They want to hold strongly to a specific view of Florida. Might as well say California and Arizona aren’t “Western” but are really Midwestern colonies and Texas is a mix outside of the South.

The South doesn’t equal redneck territory. The South is literally a geographical area of this country with a lot of diverse shit going down in it. The End.

Via the latest info from the CDC, the Center for Disheveled Cars, there is a good benchmark to know if your area has an infestation of New Yorkers (Long Island species is highly aggressive, like those giant asian hornets), and South Floridians. If you are noticing that on the highway, there is a high proportion of folks doing 15 below, on the left lane, AND merging aggressively with no blinkers, there is a good chance you may have a NY infestation. If they drive an SUV, and do all of the above, high degree of probability that it may be the long island species. If you notice a general lack of knowledge for basic driving protocols, like right-of-way or maintaining the lane, most likely they are Floridians, but Floridians that might have some NY DNA in them.

If you want to know if a New Jersey infestation is in your state, just look for the reckless drivers who tailgate anyone on the left. For Pennsylvania, just look for the folks doing the speed limit, at all times, even in a 45 zone, at times where its annoying, even to safe drivers.

Whaddya mean "colonizing"? You colonized decades ago. Blanche, Dorothy and the gang, not to mention cranky old Herman and Ethel Bitters, had already turned parts of Henderson County into Boca North by the late 80's.

Of course, these days it's fashionable to forego Florida altogether, cut out the middle man, and move straight here from Ohio, Michigan, New York, or wherever. Before, people used to have to spend that season in purgatory, fighting off cockroaches the size of their hand, before getting sick of the heat and moving back up north to the first place they could find that had seasons.

So true! Texas is a diverse place, but that doesn't make Lubbock any less Texan than Brownsville. I'm trying to think of a big metropolitan region that isn't full of people from other areas. In each city, tens of thousands of people move and replace each other and this repeats every year.

Tampa Bay is the Delaware Valley. This is mainly because of the Phillies having Spring Training in Clearwater. The Flyers at the Lightning is always the biggest road draw because of the transplants. While the Flyers fans can be found at just about all road games in big numbers, places like Miami, Raleigh, Nashville, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Anaheim are not as impressive of a turnout as Tampa is. Flyers fans will actually turn up for Panthers games in just slightly smaller numbers, because many of the transplants in Tampa get a double-shot of the Flyers while they are down in Florida for their one trip a season.

Thanks for pointing this out and it seems like a lot of people don't know the history of Miami / SE Florida. The mother of Miami is Julia Tuttle who was a widow from Cleveland & Henry Flagler the railroad developer from Hyde Park, New York bought land from her & created Miami as well as W. Palm Beach & Ft. Lauderdale.
South Florida was sold to & catered itself to wealthy Northerners right from the beginning so it was a colony of sorts for them.
Miami was not some established 'Southern city" that was invaded by "Northerners" to begin with.
