As I posted in the highways thread in the Canada forum...

Interesting project this weekend on the 400; replacing the southbound bridge over Finch in Toronto to allow construction of the Finch West LRT. They literally cut out the existing span and moved it out of the way and replaced it with a pre-built new span. Pics and videos on their twitter account:

I just saw today that a new LCBO and Tim Hortons are coming into shape at Waubaushene (Highway 400 Exit 147).

Why Additional Traffic Signals?

In 2006, future traffic projections did not anticipate traffic growth such that warrants for traffic signals would be satisfied for any of the intersections within the Study Area except for Division Road (County Road 29) and Essex County Road 34 (Union Avenue). With traffic signal warrants now satisfied for Belle River Road (County Road 27) and County Road 18 and with recognition of the benefit of providing controlled access to Highway 3 which enhances safety, traffic signals are recommended to be added to the 2006 Approved Plan for these intersections.

When the province built the realignment of Highway 3 through Essex County, it was never intended to be a full freeway.

It makes sense. Do people ask for a divided 4 lane because of truck volume (much like Highway 40 near Sarnia)?

^ I dunno.

As is, Highway 3 is pretty flat and busy, so it's tough to pass a slow vehicle at present. I'm sure it will be a huge improvement once it's widened.

It’s about time to correct that left-hand exit and merge! I wish that M.T.O. also puts the interchange in at Highway 5 and corrects the slope by doing so though.

Okay good. So the PC government actually updated everything. I was gonna share it, but I wasn’t sure whether the government only updated the interactive map and nothing else.

Curious question of the day:
Why did M.T.O. cut off all local access from Johnstown to Highway 16?

Tonight's Planning and Development Committee voted 7-0 in favour of the boulevard instead of a 400-series highway for the 413. Now goes to Council.

A 200 page presentation deck was also provided by staff tonight supporting the rationale for the boulevard and providing a history of the impacts of highways among other design history lessons. I'll post it tomorrow.
Does that even mean a thing to M.T.O.?

They’ve been working on it for some time now, but if by that you mean the freeway extension taking shape, I guess.

Closing the connection to Zenway should be one of the last things that they do on the 427 project. So to me, this signals that they are trying to open the 427 extension before the end of the year.

Yea, didn't the project commence only 2 or 3 years ago?
