I take your point, but cafes and restaurants are common accessories for museums and galleries worldwide including many of the most renowned... I think most people accept that. It's not as though WAG carved out space for a Dollarama or a Money Mart...
I may have wanted to eat on the rooftop patio restaurant at the WAG, but yes, as Esquire says, out of sight out of mind. And I was never quite sure if you had to pay $ admission to get in and then $ for a meal.

This way, restaurant goers are 100% sure you don't need to visit the galleries to have a good meal. So this will mean more people will choose to eat there, with the WAG "vibe".

Hmm. Dunno if it’s just because it’s obstructed but that looks to be extremely underwhelming and boring compared to renders. They made it look like giant diagonal slabs of stone, those just look like standard brick?

They were never slabs they have always been depicted as stone bricks.

Look at the render on the first page.

That translucent metallic finish had been scrapped for years, white stone in all the subsequent renderings.

I still can't help but cringe every time I see that sign... of course it's the largest of its kind if it's the world's first!

It’s trying to say world’s 1st (dedicated museum to Inuit Art) and largest if it’s kind ( Inuit Art collection). There are many other Inuit Art collections around the world but none as vast as the WAG.

Yup, no problem with that. It’s a bit perplexing that the idea of being the 1st and largest is being dissed. What’s the unsaid premise or undertone here?

I prefer bricks. Looks unique and kinder in my opinion.

That only makes sense if you are familiar with the project.

Let's imagine for a moment that you're a visitor to Winnipeg. Suddenly you drive around the corner and see a sign saying "World's 1st"...

Hmm, that's interesting you think.... what could it be the first of? You keep reading, only to get hit with the perplexing end of the sentence... "and largest of its kind".

But wait... largest of what kind? Didn't you just tell me it's the first?

A little confused, you drive away, without any idea what this mystery project is actually going to be.

"Word's Largest Inuit Art Collection" would be a much better way to say it.

What's that supposed to mean?

The banner doesn't make sense.

I went back to the earlier conversation and I think I’ve misread what was being said. Was fairly distracted when reading it.

I agree, what the banner says is redundant.

This is a rare case where I think reality looks better then the render (so far).

I think the brick could either look really good (blizzard snow storm like) or really cheap (institutional back room like).

Overall though the build is looking good. They did a nice job on getting the shape to match the renders. Some funky curves and points to deal with.

Brick by brick, closer to grand opening.

t’s not the first time I’ve posted an image of this façade angle of the #inuitartcentre @wag_ca, but today the white granite felt like a big wave or drift coming from the north.
