It wasn't that long ago that Buffalo was Toronto's big sister. She's still grand as Hell.

Love that little indoor mall, where is that?

A beautiful city no doubt.

That is the Market Arcade (1892), which connects the 600 block of Main Street to Washington Street and the former Chippewa Public Market.

Hard to believe, but from the mid-1970s through the late 1990s this building was vacant and boarded up. It wasn't until the late 00s and 2010s that the majority of this section of Main Street was restored and occupied. This was considered an area of Buffalo to avoid by people who lived there in the 70s thru 90s, and nearby Chippewa Street had been the local red-light district until the 1980s. There are now about a dozen active clubs and live theaters on this block of Main.

Fantastic thread! Buffalo is like a classic house. Though it may be rough around the edges it has good bones and seems future proofed through quality engineering... I also read Buffalo is going to be one of the "hot" new cities because of climate change. Aka it's a traditionally cold city that won't warm up nearly as much as say NYC or Boston...

Plus it is close to the GTA so sooner or later there's bound to be some spill over, right?

Downtown looks a lot better than the last time I was there around 2007.

When I was small child my Grandpa would take me around and pay his bills. We would take the Metro Bus downtown and he would go to Niagara Mohawk and pay the power bill. Bell Telephone to pay his phone bill. Then before we would go home we would stop at the Mohawk on Chippewa. He would get us hot dogs with hot sauce (Called a Redhot and not a Coney). He would get a shot of whiskey in a beer. It was called something but I do not remember... My favorite thing was once a year we would go to City Hall and he would take us up to the Observation deck. Buffalo was much different place in 1972.

Great tour of ruff buff. Niagara Mohawk and City Hall buildings are two of the best anywhere.

Quite lovely. I really must get back up to Buffalo again, as it's been such a long time.
