Absolute numbers aside, I think St. Albert is more of a Mississauga/Laval type in that it's immediately adjacent to Edmonton but still has a separate municipal government and regulatory environment - most suburbs in Alberta that aren't already amalgamated into the cities are separated from them by a pretty substantial gap (like Okotoks). In terms of building stock you're probably not going to see an Absolute World or even a Clockzilla in St. Albert. But its role, geographic relation to the rest of the metro, and overall feel seem very much in line with Mississauga and Laval overall.

what's the New Brunswick of California? Inquiring minds want to know.

Rural Northern California.

(If there’s a NorCal county that has three small cities of equal size, then that one.)

As for “the New Brunswick of the US Northeast”, it’s in Middlesex County NJ.

Not only is there a New Brunswick, New Jersey, there is also a New Jersey, New Brunswick (in rural Charlotte County).

West Virginia has a history similar to New Brunswick. Carved off for political reasons from an older settled area. However, those Loyalists from the US were probably more likely to own slaves than the settlers who had moved directly from Europe.

Why am I not surprised that you would compare NB/NS to WV/VA - the worst of rural Appalachia as apposed to the genteel splendour of the “Old Dominion.”

You are betraying your NS roots inasmuch as this is how most Nova Scotians view their NB neighbours - rubes and bumpkins vs urban sophisticates.

They weren't like this historically. WV was more industrial while VA was a plantation based economy. Back when the split happened it probably felt like WV or NB were the more dynamic areas.

Puerto Rico is the New Brunswick of the USA: it’s officially bilingual, unlike all the other provinces and states.

(Of course, one of the flaws is that analogy is that we’re totally missing a “Quebec of the USA”.)

How long will it be until 1 state adds Spanish as an official language?

I think it could happen easily. For example, Donald Trump gets elected in 2024 and makes a big deal out of preventing the adoption of Spanish as an official language so states like Vermont become officially bilingual.

There is no West Coast on the East Coast.
And vice versa.

Yes there is, Newfoundland has a West Coast on the East Coast.
Vancouver Island has an East Coast on the West Coast.

The biggest pro about Milton must be that Rockwool factory, or the adjacent mega jail. It can't be that horribly wretched Premium Outlets.

I have a mental image of someone123 (like all unbane Haligonians) sitting on his expansive veranda, his servant fanning him during the late evening heat and humidity and sipping on a mint julip, while casting aspersions on the uncouth nature, abhorrent lack of cleanliness and poor dentition of the rural coal miner folk up in the nearby Appalachians.

"There's so much to do in Okotoks! We have bike trails. And winter bike trails. And BMX trails. And, uh, oh yeah! skating! and we're only 3 hours drive from the U.S. border!".

Rough editing in that section as he must have really struggled to come up with all of the activities there are to do in Okotoks. I also like that there's no visuals of the town whatsoever, except for his ugly suburban street and kitchen.

Affordability: He almost had me considering the possibility of moving to Okotoks to afford a SFH for a second. "You can save up to 50..... thousand dollars on a mortgage compared to a similar home in Calgary". I'm sorry but I'm not moving to the boonies for anything less than 100K savings. Cockring's homes prices are similar. Completely outrageous housing prices for shitty bedroom communities.

The subtropical heat of Halifax can be oppressive. One needs to stay adequately hydrated. They have palm trees, you know.

I expect the coal-miner disdain would be reserved for Industrial Cape Breton. New Brunswickers would be simply leeching off the government dole and riding the coattails of being in the Maritimes.

There's an Ontario, California. Once again, Ontario wins.

Beats New Jersey.
