Flames got next to nothing because Iginla did next to nothing upon his departure. That was the market price for Iginla.
Kiprusoff retired. Can’t get anything back for someone retiring. You don’t think a team would trade assets knowing the player in return was going to retire.
Goo had a big cap hit. Flames left him unprotected, knowing he could be selected, Also knowing they needed to free cap space to bring in other talent, which they did.
Gaudreau had the best season of his career in the last year of his contract, which lead to the Flames being what some considered a cup contender. Should the Flames have traded him mid season, just to say they got something back?
I’d consider that pretty good asset management, really.
