I found this photo on reddit saying "Sigourney Weaver eating a hot dog in 1983, photographed by Douglas Kirkland." The Pop-Colorture site colored it.

2700 W. 7th St. was the Westlake Camera Exchange according to a 17 July 1948 Los Angeles Times ad. The same address is the Silver Platter Grill in the 1956 City Directory, so we know it was there before 1963.

Thank you Mackerm for the update and the current photo link of this site. When I was 4 yrs I lived on a rabbit ranch in Burbank. I remember how strange it was then, that the more rural Burbank streets had no curbing or sidewalks. I thought wow, this is country. The husband used to kill the rabbits we ate for dinner. Rabbit was a popular dish in WW II and after since much of the meat supply was rationed and rabbit was not. Seen rabbit in your local LA market recently...no, but one used to.

I wonder what the current plans are, since nothing had come to be (yet). I know as of a few years ago, the owners were also planning on putting a Pup at the Bloc shopping center downtown, out on the street (Hope side). Probably would have done well downtown, especially in the wee hours.

The Tail o' the Pup was purchased two years ago by 1933 Group. The building is currently being restored at their facility and a new location for the restaurant, about two miles from the original, is being prepared.

I have had this 'mystery' photograph in my file for quite some time and have often wondered where it was taken.

Could it be a stairwell in the old Alexander Hotel?....There is similar stained glass in the Alexander's ballroom. (circa 1906)

I just happened upon a 4 x 5 film negative on eBay

When I first looked at the photograph I thought the Park Wilshire had added an elaborate, art deco side entrance!

but if you look closely (BELOW) there is also a thermometer/calendar (?) & writing at the top. .as well as a pegasus!. . . .so it's obviously part of the gas station.
- -even though (to me) it looks like it's across the side-street.

Surely, we have seen the 'Coronado Wilshire Center' previously on NLA, right?....- for some reason, I don't remember the elaborate tower.

I posted Julius Shulman images of the single-story building on the right in post #32988, although they didn't include the tower. You posted this color shot about six weeks later. It shows the tower from the other side, but I'm not sure if we've seen a good close-up.

Yes, plans were made for one to reopen in it's original location and a couple others planned to open elsewhere.
And what you quoted above about the original is accurate at that time.

Next we have a June, 2017 article from Los Angeles Magazine:

This article states that the original Tail of the Pup will be an exhibit at the Valley Relics Museum. The end of the article says: "The museum is inviting fans to come greet the Pup at 2 p.m. on Thursday at The Print Lab in North Hollywood, where it will be cleaned and prepared to go on display at the museum later this month."

Next, we have this article from Los Angeles Magazine a year later, July 31, 2018:

This article states the "original" Tail of the Pup has been acquired by the 1933Group.

This article is from LA Curbed a few days later, August 3, 2018:

It states, "Tail O’ the Pup and its fantastic neon sign were donated to the Valley Relics Museum about a year ago, after a deal between its longtime owners, the Blake family, and potential business partners to bring the Pup back fell through. The museum put it in storage, and museum founder Tommy Gelinas told Curbed in 2017 that it has sat awaiting restoration. Gelinas connected the Blakes with 1933 Group, says Green. The family “wanted to find the right people.”

The last word right now is that the 1933Group, which restored the Formosa and reopened it last year, is looking for a suitable location for it, it's original one or one nearby.

That was the plan of the former owners (Killer Shrimp) in 2016. The 1933 Group fully intend to return the original building to its original use. They have acquired a property and are building out a modern kitchen that the Pup will sit in front of.
