Lol. Why do that? It’d be a lie because neither are going anywhere....

The most interesting part to me is the Marietta Blvd bridge. One, it's currently one of the worst bridges I can think of. There is literally a giant hole on one end that is blocked off, preventing a regular right turn onto the bridge. Second, every fifth vehicle is a semi. A bridge crossing over West Marietta Street should be considered. I wouldn't feel safe walking/waiting to cross. A dream scenario would be an alternate route for the semis to get from NS to Marietta Blvd.

To make it even worse, there is a gas station going up there and the back is facing Marietta Blvd.

Sigh... a BP is going ACROSS THE STREET from this UNDER CONSTRUCTION gas station. Unreal... who allows this crap.

We are going to have a new beautiful park, that is going to be surrounded by gas stations.

I have a gut feeling that the Chattahoochee River corridor is about to become a major catalyst for development interest with the same intensity (or more) than we have seen along the Beltline. The only thing that may slow the potential onslaught of development would be the environmental issues that may rise when developing along a river corridor.

The Chattahoochee may be become a regional signature like the rivers and canals systems are to San Antonio and Austin, Texas.

In the future, Atlanta could ultimately be known just as well for it's great linear parkway network along our rivers and railways as it is known for being a city in the forest!

You’re right that environmental concerns will be a factor. The floodplains are very wide swaths due to low surroundings elevations. I do think we’ll continue to see development closer to our growing trail networks though, which tends to follow our streams and railroads.

There's also a Metropolitan River Protection Act (MRPA) zone within 1,000 feet of the river. What is allowed depends on soil types, but generally limits development to 10% of a lot and max. 3 stories tall. The act seeks, in part, to preserve the wooded views FROM the river - as if you were rafting down it.

Has anyone heard any new news on the Westside Park opening? It was pushed back to a late summer opening. Well, the official end of summer is in a couple of weeks. Open it up KLB.

What’s happening with Westside Park?

https://www.atlantamagazine.com/news...hwest-atlanta/

Quote:
Next month, crews will put the final touches on a 350-foot deep reservoir holding 2.4 billion gallons of water Atlanta can tap in case of an emergency. Later on, they’ll cut the ribbon on the surrounding park, the city’s largest.

Work is all but finished on the relatively simple first phase of the greenspace named Westside Park (think an overlook of the reservoir and city skyline, playground, parking, and native plant landscaping). It also has a connection to the Proctor Creek Greenway, a multi-use trail that will eventually connect to the Chattahoochee. Later phases will add three or four overlooks, an amphitheater, and athletic fields.

Construction on improvements to the pocket park at 10th and Peachtree is scheduled to begin any time:

"3 outdoor rooms for different uses such as a fenced dog park, play area and activity zone for lawn games."

Capital City Plaza garage could be topped with park

https://www.reporternewspapers.net/2...r-green-space/

Quote:
A plan to expand the parking garage at Buckhead’s Capital City Plaza skyscraper includes topping it with a park open to the public, with connections to the proposed HUB404 green space and another yet-to-be-built tower in the rear.

Cousins Properties showed the plan for the 3350 Peachtree Road skyscraper Oct. 7 to the Development Review Committee of Special Public Interest District 12, a local zoning district. DRC member Sally Silver called it a “vast improvement… Keep buying up those old places and make them new again. We love it.”

The plan involves expanding the tower’s current parking garage roughly 120 feet to the rear, increasing its spaces from 663 to 1,004. Cousins plans to cease using 431 spaces in 3354 Peachtree lot, which it co-owns with Regent Partners; because that is a separate property, it cannot be considered a net decrease in parking for zoning purposes, project engineer Charles Zakem said. Under zoning, Zakem said, the project could have a maximum of 1,133 parking spaces of all types.

Atlanta City Design: Nature update.

Worth noting, page 63/ lists “park deserts”, similar in concept to food deserts, as any location outside 10-minute walking distance.

For their analysis, they pointed out the high biodiversity in park desert locations and how there’s high vulnerability of those areas. Overall, it’s a great read with lots of visuals.
