Wow, the first photo looks even better than the view we get from the Adler Planetarium. Vista seems visibly taller than Aon Center, despite being slightly farther away.

According to Studio Gang it will be painted black.

Beautiful. The blow through floor doesn't actually bother me. It's kind of a a quirky signature now. The haphazard venting on the other side is horrible though. Too bad both sides couldn't look this good.

If this thing had no blow through floor, no balconies and Neptune blue glass I'd be crazy about it.

Still not bad though.

My OCD tendencies have noticed that there are...

3 floors above the balconies on the highest "tower"
1 floor above the balconies on the middle "tower"
2 floors above the balconies above the lower "tower"

I know that these have to do with the mechanical penthouses and amenity decks, but I choose to interpret this as a nod to "312," the Chicago area code. It's like a love letter.

So great and so noticeable now that you mentioned it!

sort of a sad that in a city like Chicago, which used to pride itself on architectural excellence, a lamentable and staggeringly high-profile engineering error is now regarded as a "quirky" signature... i don't mean to belabor the point but the blow through floor looks pretty awful from any perspective... IMHO

Are they adding a screen to the blow through level? I kinda like it the way it is, but was looking at the rendering, and it looks like there is some screen to make it resemble the rest of the facade?

I'm not in love with how they handled the blow-through, but it was mentioned a few pages back that there was not an engineering error, rather the developer increased the floor plan size AFTER construction began resulting in the blow-through.

this. this is my only real question. just why black?! there is no use speculating on a decision this seemingly stupid, i want to hear an actual explanation from studio gang or bkl

Perhaps any other color but black for the vents would just make any future discolorations from emissions look even worse?

I could be wrong but I think that would defeat the purpose. A screen wouldn't add much wind resistance but still would to a certain extent.
