I like how psychotic it looks. It reminds me of the clown from the television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's It.

There's no reason not to trust Hovey here. Optima I turned out very well, and his portfolio is really solid and tasteful. We could use a little more color in this city, and I have faith that it'll turn out to be a classy, yet colorful and fun design.

Wow, way to pick the ugliest trees imaginable (ailanthus). I miss the breezeways, though.

^. What? Those trees rock! As does this new
color scheme. I actually think this is refreshing. The
black podium was good for phase one, sort of an evil "Empire Strikes Back" pending doom thing. But in this phase the good guys win, thus a bit if color.

Wow. Just.....wow. This is fantastic. The color is a much-needed bold jolt to a downtown scene that could use splashes of it here and there. I think Hovey is going to really execute here (and I'm with you on the trees, TUP - I think they're great...another move on the somewhat bolder side....I love it)....

Does anyone have that multi-colored elevation from way back when?

Huh... love the green. Really not of fan of the red. Definitely not a fan of the two colors together.

Optima Old Orchard uses this color scheme, albeit with far less red, and it's really quite nice. I don't think the renderings are adequately capturing how it will look.

i hope they have some retail or resturaunts facing the circle, that area is so dead and the base of optima I adds nothing to the neighborhood

That was my assumption. (re the unreliability of a computer rendering to represent real world look and feel of colored glass)

Nonetheless, Optima Old Orchard's glass is more of an aqua color, and the red accents aren't as prominent. I'm still a bit uneasy about the stark contrast of red and green in these latest renderings. That being said, I guess I should have faith in Hovey's aesthetic choices. He has a more than qualified track record.

Also, I am SUCH a huge fan of the black glass on the previous tower. If the green were to stay and the red switch to black...??? Idk, we'll see. I'm sure it'll be amazing in the end.

The color scheme is like Hovey's homage to Pelli's Pacific Design Center, which took approximately 7,000 years to complete. I'm confident that in Hovey's hands, we'll end up with something just as distinctive and classy, if not more.

The developer of the Optima Chicago Center rental building in Streeterville is forging ahead with the project's next phase, adding another big clump of units to an increasingly crowded downtown apartment market.

A venture led by developer and architect David Hovey recently started construction on what Mr. Hovey said would be a 57-story, 498-unit apartment building at 220 E. Illinois St.

The more I look at this, the more I like it. I'm a firm believer that architecture should be free and boundary breaking as often as possible. To that extent, the stark departure from the blue-glass norm is refreshing.

I'm really looking forward to standing within the circular court and looking up
at this when it's done. I for one really like the color switch
