Its dominance is likely to be very short lived with its neighbor coming in on Randolph at almost 200 feet taller

Hoping the height on that one stays intact.
We shall see.

Agreed, that is a beautiful project that I'd love to see get built as designed.

That base will forever look half done. But I love the tower. Can we get six more on Halsted?

Jesus, I didn't think the city allowed parking to be exposed and visible level from tower podiums anymore

OMG that's hysterically bad. City really needs to simply require that developers put in liner units since they obviously can't be trusted to do a halfway decent podium screen.

The city recently put this in the West Loop development guidelines, but developers aren't required to follow every recommendation.

That's a bit like asking a coal-fired factory to retrofit voluntarily tbh. At some point, we just need to force shady actors to do the right thing.

Before everyone freaks out about this, we should wait to see what the other sides will look like. This might just be for the side facing the Crowne Plaza. The side facing the Kennedy has a much more finished looked and seems to be turning out much better. I don't see any signs that the same treatment is going to be applied to the side facing Halsted or on the north side.

Even the rendering there is generous for how the north/south ends look. Yikes

Although I still reserve judgement until it's closer to being finished.

Vooft, it's bad. I love how that one person's like let's wait until it's finished. Dude, look at the photo already. I sometimes wonder who's working for who around here.

I often wonder that too, but not from the standpoint of ulterior motives as much. Although I work for an interior designer, and our firm is spared a lot of the criticism that goes around on this forum, our work does include a lot of recently completed and in-progress buildings.

That said, we have really enjoyed working with Fitzgerald and would have loved to work on the interiors for this bad boy.

That's cool. Criticism is good though. Especially in this case, there's almost unanimous aversion to the base, so the hope is that the next time around they'll put more thought into it. The tower looks good.
