That's a different project, on a site on Gateway where the SkyTrain tracks cross the site (as your map shows). The Hilton/Grosvenor 'S' shaped tower would be further east, if it's a real proposal.

Well to be fair, do we need more weed stores? I swear there's one on every block in some places, I don't know how people can be buying that much weed.

Surrey has 0 stores. It's the biggest city west of Ontario without one. Vancouver has a bunch, but there's no city in the lower mainland that even comes close to meeting retail demand. There's got to be close to a dozen liquor stores in North Delta, but only 1 weed store that's opened after 4 years of legalization

Great shot. The density around King George skytrain is getting quite impressive.

the other thing I've noticed is the lack of private liquor stores in Surrey, there are a few but not very common, the Newton RCSS had a wine section but I think it's been removed.

Piano by Concord Pacific @ 13468 105A Ave

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but Concord is swapping out their branding on their sales center next to the Hub right now to this.

there is a new apartment building going up, it's actually reached its final height,s behind the McDonalds on 104th near 144th. There is no branding or signage on it so I think it is a rental project, maybe social housing? It is next door to a church so I am wondering if the church donated the land for it to get built. Anyway, it is good to see 104th get something new going on.

Can someone refresh my memory on what’s going in the old safeway lot? And why the old safeway closed down a year ago when there has been absolutely no activity on the site since? Would have been nice if the store didn’t close so prematurely. This growing neighbourhoods current grocery stores are swamped

AFAIK Safeway closed it in their last round of shutdowns. The pharmacy was open for a while after the store itself closed and now the pharmacy has moved into the smaller building in the parking lot next to the HSBC.

------

On 108th near 144 there are a couple of old 2 storey rentals, the bottom levels are boarded up but people seem to be still living on the second floor still. they will be replacing them with two 6 storey rentals according to the development application that has loing been removed. A block or so east three older houses will be getting replaced by a condo at some point in time, signage has been up for a few months and something is coming but no real info other than a Financing provided by sign.

So that lot is just going to sit empty until some developer decides to build condos on it? Jeez doesn’t seem like we’re in a housing crisis lol. That’s pretty much the most prime intersection in the city

Yup. Developers don't care about a housing crisis and they shouldn't. Their entire business is built around developing land to make profit for their shareholders. Crisis = profit.

Interesting! - ML Emporio just put this up this past week at the corner of 133a St & 103 Ave. I see they also have a similar sign up at 133 St & 104 Ave and they are busily excavating the site for their Melrose tower at 133 St & Central Ave. (photo taken today)

Looks like there will finally be some life in this building.

Surrey’s long-vacant 104 Avenue building is ‘fully leased,’ and a new owner has the keys

Surrey’s long-vacant 104 Avenue building could soon see signs of life, now that a new owner has the keys.

Kuldeep Bansal says he took possession of the 271,000-square-foot commercial complex on Wednesday (April 27), and expects tenant improvements to happen this spring and summer.

“It’s fully leased,” Bansal said of the Whalley/Guildford building, bought for more than $55 million.

“We are now waiting for permits from the city to start completing the work, the tenant improvements,” he added. “It takes time for everything, so we expect tenants to move in in October or November.”

Tenants will include a grocery store, doctors’ offices, pharmacy, daycare, two colleges and B.C. government offices, he said.

The sale could signal the end of a long, 24-year saga for the notorious building, constructed in 1998. No long-term tenants have ever been found.

they have done some painting inside the main entrance, it's bright yellow and blue, was not like that a few days ago. But will be good to see that they can start building it out now.

Those three houses on the block to the east will need to get replaced soon, they just look so bad. Ditto the west, but there is a sign on the vacant lots that a new project is coming soon.

Also the NW corner of KGH and 108th has a new signage that says Financing provided by, that just went up in the last week or two, any idea whats going on with that corner?

Melrose is actively underway (pic taken today). Might soon be time for its own thread?
