Other than WPS (where Salesforce Tower is now planned) which never had an announced height but was zoned to go taller with one earlier iteration showing a building maybe 50 feet taller than what is now proposed, what other "bunch of towers" are you referring to?
Not Bank of America Tower - got a 45 foot increase. Not NEMA, Vista, WPE, OBP, Essex...
All I can think of is Equinox and 900 West Randolph - with both still pushing the height envelope west of the Kennedy in a non-traditional high-rise area and both likely having been proposed at the outer limits for height in anticipation of NIMBY resistance.
Honestly this 'height fear mongering' is a bit exaggerated.
Whether or not this is just under 1000 ft or just over 1000 ft ist mir völlig egal.
