i live on "west eastwood", which is always fun when i have to say my address out loud.

i'm sure similar to those who live on "north southport".

The 78 is objectively a terrible neighborhood name.

instead of "the 78", Related should have gone with something more original and fun like "River South".

but seriously, "lincoln yards" is fine. it's not great, but perfectly and averagely adequate.

"the 78" is dumb, but i remain skeptical that anyone will actually call it that in daily usage once its done decades from now.

I prefer NoChito - North Chinatown.

Or what about SoRo? South of Roosevelt

All hail Belgravia Group, the only ones doing development names right in Chicago. Possibly the greatest development name of all time is:

Triangle Square

Related keeps assuring me that "The 78" is just a placeholder name. Alas, as we know from Block 37, The Gap, New City, or North Center, if a placeholder name gets used long enough it sticks.

Ironically, Related is also responsible for the development name I most applaud: Bennett Park. During the 2009 centenary of the Plan of Chicago, I tried to spur some interest in naming something for Edward Bennett, coauthor of the Plan. Unlike Burnham, Bennett lived too long to have anything like a park named in his honor (we used to think it improper to name things for living persons). I never made any progress: the pushback from Magellan about naming Park No. 546 for Bennett rather than "Lakeshore East" was immediate. I was trying to think of another park to advocate for when I learned from an old friend at Related that their young marketing team had come up with Bennett Park all on their own.

And I'm even more excited for the river walk and plaza areas in the plans. I'm dreaming for a future where there are miles of riverwalk on the north and south branches and people are commuting to work on water taxi and some crazies on kayaks. That will for sure change people's image of the city.

I know this is even further off topic, but… is it crazy to think that the riverwalk could be a great ice skating spot when the river freezes over? I looked it up and skating on the river used to be a thing. I can imagine skating from Lincoln Yards to the wild mile. Seems like a lot of fun to me and maybe the crazy kayakers would be into it too.

the city uses icebreakers on the occasions it does freeze over due to the need for emergency crafts to be able to get through. also, the liability is just way to high for people to go down there, lots of people freeze to death by falling into the river as it is

Lol. So like a midwestern Elfstedentocht? Not going to happen but I love the creativity.

Ha, I'll wait until it's done but it's weird that their headquarters seems to be one of their least attractive recent properties.

345 is decent infill, don't know why everybody hates it. It's in a pretty discreet spot so I wasn't expecting some phenomenal design or whatever. Has retail, decent height, and is a mix of apartments and offices.

This one? https://sterlingbay.com/properties/345-north-morgan/

I don't think it has any apartments.
