They have the Meat’s.

Krispy Cream…they are mostly closed in the US as well. A real head scratcher there.

I was at the Outlet mall last week and believe there was only one, maybe two empty stores. They have done a real nice job in leasing there.

Re: Krispy Kreme

Now that I think about it, Tim Hortons treats donuts pretty much like an afterthought now. Maybe they saw a market opportunity?

No familiar with why Krispy Kreme died out over a decade ago in the US and Canada? Was it all the bad publicity over trans fats which their donuts are loaded? Expanding too rapidly?

Actually not a bad thought.

I always thought Robin's could make a comeback for that reason.

^ Robin's donuts and other baked goods are far and away superior to the frozen re-heat crap at Tim Horton's.

It's not even close.

Their coffee is meh, but then so is the coffee at Tim Hortons.

Not really a fan of either to be honest.

If you want a donut worth a damn in the city, Oh Doughnuts on Broadway is the place to go too. Chain stores will rarely have donuts of that standard.

Although I’m lowkey excited for Krispy Kreme. I still remember trying it out in Orlando and it tasting quite amazing.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out. Haven't had a good donut in a while.

Where do you donut connoisseurs stand on The Donut House on Selkirk Ave.? I used to work at a place with a cafeteria that sold bagels from that place and they were the best ever, far better IMO than places with more cachet like Gunn's or whatever. Ironically, I have never tried their donuts.

Oh wait. Yes I have had the donuts from the donut house. I found their website and says you can get their donuts and pastries at the Garden city mall at the rollin pin pastry shop. Pretty good stuff, though it's been while since i had it. My sister gets stuff from there often.

haven't tried that place - but now I want to, especially if the bagels are good.

Oh Doughnuts are amazing - BUT - they are huge, and priced accordingly.

They are not what I'd call "purist" bagels, they aren't like the Montreal-style bagel. But man, toasted and buttered, I'm not sure I've ever had any better.

Yup the donut house doughnuts are fantastic. Fresh, moist and chewy. The way a doughnut should be. I’ve tried donuts from all the trendy places and they were all dry AF, super expensive, and meh on flavour.

Their bagels are good too, I’d say best in the city until Hudson bagels came along.

Robin's is also serving par-baked items. My aunt and uncle were franchisees.

Pretty sure it was the recession of 2008 that took a big bite out of Kripy Kreme especially in the USA. When consumer spending gets crunched discretionary purchases like donuts get hit the hardest. If they had borrowed heavily to rapidly expand that could be what contributed to the contraction.

I'm not a much of a doughnut connoisseur, but I had the chance last fall to try some from the World's Best Donuts in Grand Marias, Minnesota. Best I've ever tasted, and I was pretty cynical before I tried them based on the hype in the name. Anyone travelling on Superior's north shore should check them out.
