Re Little Goat to Dreamland

Definitely feels like there could be some behind the scenes drama there.

Little Goat was extremely busy before the pandemic once people learned it was there and the food was always delicous.

Then as we start to come out of the pandemic they close fairly suddenly. The building never sees the normal for rent/sale signs go up. It looks like the old furnishings are locked in by the landlord.

Then there are signs of a few odd break ins. That itself isn't unusual but I cannot recall exactly what made me think this way but almost had a feel like it wasn't the usual sort of break in.

That is followed not too long by renovations starting on the exterior. And being honest it is an older building and the work is not out of line with general maintenance but the timing was definitely a little suspect.

Follow that up with word spreading that Dreamland was happening.

Definitely feels like a bit of a less common journey.

I suspect Solera is a Speakeasy. I’d forgotten about Tabula Rasa. It’s a good idea. A place to send people while they wait for their table or after they’re done but still want to hangout.

Yeah I feel like it's something along these lines - like Tabula Rasa is probably just branding their lounge/lounge-type area as Solera.

A very informative article about Dreamland Diner:

https://canadatoday.news/mb/all-i-ha...e-press-56082/

Little Goat closed because Chef Alex said the building needed too may repairs...plus he wanted to focus on helping out at his son's little new restaurant in OV (can't recall the name). Living a half a block from the place, I can confirm that it's true the place needed a lot if work. The work included installing new outside styrofoam insulation and new siding.

Thanks for that. Reading the "About" page, it looks like Chef Alex is the head chef there now.

The building did need repairs but Alex had to have known that going in and being an experienced chef he likely negotiated rent concessions based on that.

Lots of gossip on why Little Goat truly closed. It is sad to see it go though.

doesnt "chef Alex" have a history of disappearing from successful places? Bistro 7 1/4, Bouche Bouche on Tache, and now Little Goat

coffee shop right next door to parlour. i suppose the more storefronts and the better the streetscape, the better it is for everyone... but i never really understand areas where there are multiples of the same type of place right next door to one another (e.g., sushi places next door to each other on corydon)

The sushi thing on Corydon has settled down, there are only a couple of sushi spots left on that strip. But I can appreciate why demand for it would have been pretty high around there.

I get the feeling this isn't going to be as coffee shop-ish as Parlour... more lounge-y, from the bit that I've heard. Also I notice it's 474 Main St., unit B, which makes me wonder whether it's around the corner from Parlour... like an entrance off Bannatyne?

Regardless, the name in general is maybe not well thought out - like I know it's "pronounced ROW-zay" or whatever, but there's also Rose Bar at Hargrave Street Market. In fact if I owned the latter I'd probably have been in touch with lawyers already...

474 Main is not Parlour (they are 468), it's Birts Saddlery building. Windows have been added to front and side, slowly looking good.

Yeah, I know. 474 is the spot where Rose is going - the old Antiques and Funk building (and formerly Birts). What I was wondering was whether the entrance would be off Bannatyne into that building (and hence around the corner from Parlour, rather than neatly next door facing Main).

^ Would be nice to have an entrance on Bannatyne to activate that stretch of sidewalk.

The entrance for rosé is off Bannatyne, the portion facing Main is a separate CRU.
