This one will ruin the view of the Empire State Building from Madison Square Park.
It will also block the view of the Flatiron Building from the top of the Empire State Building.

That sucks. At least there's still the view from Bryant Park.

Are there any protected views of the Empire State Building like how Austin has height limits for view corridors for the capital building?

How high up are we at this point? This thing is moving fast and it feels like we are already halfway there despite the fact it started in January. Also is it going to still have the cool top part like we've seen in the renders?

Everyday people are going to hate this building once the view of ESB is blocked from Madison square. Some on the forum might say it's ok and no view is precious, but it's these kinds of finger buildings that galvanize opposition to all new development, when we really need a lot more.

Same with 430e58th in Sutton Place, where they changed zoning after the fact- or Vinoly's well known UES proposal with huge mechanical floors that was so obtuse/obnoxious it resulted in a change in zoning/building code for how they were counted.

^ As long as the view of ESB crown from Washington Street in DUMBO being framed by the Manhattan bridge is safe (that one is just iconic), I don’t really see the big issue of supertalls going up near it.

That view will be gone, and it's not really that great of a view anyway. It's the view of the bridge that's the draw there. However, there are so many great views of the Empire State, from so many angles, it really doesn't matter.

Highly unlikely, given the view of ESB is already blocked from all kinds of angles. Also this building is so skinny barely anything is blocked.

And no one thinks like this. The skyline is a constantly changing symphony.

No, that's not what happened. Crazy neighborhood NIMBYs downzoned the area to prevent their multi-million apartments from having competition. They were pretty open in their fears, as the area is dominated by postwar towers.

I literally ate at that rooftop restaurant when I first traveled to Manhattan. Kinda wild to see the view shadowed by the construction site.
