Remove those awkward balconies and I like it.

^Agreed. It would look nice if you omit everything that's going on with the SE corner.

I wonder if they'll ever release the renderings for the proposal I originally saw. It was a pretty nice design.

Not really a fan, looks considerably shorter too.

I like our current Shenzhen KK100 knockoff better, they better add another 10 meters too because why not...

That's also what I thought initially, but the first rendering actually looks more or less correct because at 1422 ft, the roof should be just a tad higher than the tip of Trump's spire.

The second rendering looks totally distorted though, so it's hard to tell how tall the proposal is.

“At Trib Tower, testing the waters on price” (Crain’s)

Quote:
If construction is to start by early 2020 on what could become Chicago's second-tallest building, more meetings or aldermanic announcements likely would have happened by now.
Quote:
At one of Tribune Tower's direct competitors for buyers' attention, One Bennett Park, a spokeswoman for developer Related Midwest confirms 40 percent of the building's 69 units are either sold or under contract (pending sale when they are completed and delivered). The 40 percent figure is the same as Related cited four months ago, in early March. Farther afield, ground has not yet been broken for 1000M, a tower at 1000 S. Michigan Ave. designed by eminent architect Helmut Jahn. Jerry Karlik, a principal of New York-based JK Equities, one of the three firms partnered on the development, said he expects groundbreaking by the end of 2019 on the building, which has been in the works for four years. In late 2018, the developers redrew the plans for seven floors of the building to contain smaller units, from 325 to 850 square feet, as an attempt to juice up sales.
Doesn’t seem like there’s any positive news on sales at 1000M, One Bennett Park, or prospects for the Tribune Tower this cycle. Disappointing.

I swear, 1000M keeps backing up that start date lol

I wonder if they'll cancel the project before saying 2020 start

I'm pretty convinced this is a pipe dream at this point. Mostly because of this...

Good thing I never had high hopes to begin with.

low expectations = low disappointment

I think Vista will be Chicago's only supertall for quite a while, good thing it's a beaut.

I think it will happen eventually, but I believe they're more focused on the renovation of the Tribune tower first.

Maybe next cycle/years down the road. I just hope they wait for a strong market and don't jump the gun, building an 800 foot tower or something lame.

Agreed. I would rather have them wait to build this in the next cycle because this one truly deserves to be built.

Right but what would be nice and what will make them the most money (and fast) are two different things and the latter will win out. If the market is mediocre they'll probably just build an 8-900 foot building instead of waiting for the next cycle and building something extraordinary.

I could be wrong obviously but that would just be my guess

Can anyone think of an example of a tower where the developers waited a long time and ended up building a taller tower than originally proposed?

How so? When it was originally proposed in 2014, it was 1,186 feet tall. They went through the approval process and built it beginning in 2016 and it will end up being 1,191 feet. It's not like the project was put on hold or stalled or anything.

Are you referring to the original site plan from SOM for Lakeshore East? That didn't have the specific proposal for Vista, just a concept of what could go there.
