It was a long wait but spectacular curtain-wall is back with a vengence in the city, with the CIBC Square diamonds (x 2 towers), The One’s beautiful silver/bronze glass just beginning, the curves and finned curtain-wall of HPA’s 19 Duncan… and of course the best suprise of all… 160 Front Street West.

Since no-one is here anyway, I’ll honour the skills of UT photographer Red Mars with even more shots of this beauty… worth seeing and perhaps the finest yet of the other thousand photos LOL.

The way Sky Tower is moving, it should pass The One sometime next year. And is Concord Sky even under construction, or are they just fiddle-farting around in that pit? Likewise The Pemberton.

2180 Yonge | ?m | 65s | Oxford Properties | Hariri Pontarini Architects l masterplan (revised)

A vastly-improved masterplan was presented recently, now led just by Hariri Pontarini Architects (HPA). Pelli Clarke Pelli are out.

A much larger park is located on the western part of the site (lots of sunlight away from the towers), an urban plaza on Yonge with mid-block connections through the site (appropriately named “Canada Square”),
a large community-use footprint (possible school), an atrium/canopy between towers (reminicent of ’The Well’) and retention of the handsome office tower at 2200 Yonge.

A “Yonge Eglinton Plaza” has been incorporated at the north-east corner to improve access to both the TTC and the site itself, along with better mixes of office, residential and retail through out.

The retained 2200 Yonge office building is on the right below.

510 Yonge | 196.9m | 59s | KingSett Capital | BDP Quadrangle l pre-construction

As reported quite a while back, City Planning was determined to kill one of my fav proposals because it was angled off-grid (not parallel to Yonge). The original design also had an elegantly stepped roof.

The new application has nixed the off-grid/angled tower and towed the Planning party line. The good news is it will still infuse some much needed colour along Yonge and the retail/at grade stuff still looks great.
