My vote goes to the area around United Center for western supertall node.

Agreed. Though the white will look terrible in a number of years but it's still an improvement.

The architects looked at the grime covering 757 N Orleans and thought this approach was more cOnTeXtUal.

BuildingUpChicago's Twitter has news of a new as of right high rise to go in at 566 W Van Buren mostly on a surface parking lot. 14 stories tall with 198 units. Looks like a 2 story and a 3 story building at least would be demolished for it..but the site is mainly a surface lot. Just a few blocks west of OPO

Wish they could've kept those 2 buildings, but the fact it mostly replaces a shitty parking lot makes up for it. The West Loop is red hot!

Does this mean no more Bombacingo's J&C?! Have had some amazing Italian subs there. A bit of an institution. Not sure if they are still in business but looks like were as of the 2021 streetview.

This year would be their 50th (!) anniversay.

Edit:

Did a little more Googling. Looks like they're closed.

That place had an incredible interior

^ Yeah, that sucks. Makes me feel slightly better about the development as that place closing wasn't directly because of this development (probably).

Hmm. I've seen soil rigs on site several times here, I wondered what that was for.

I still prefer to see office or hotel instead of residential this close to Union Station, but it's great density and way better than a surface parking lot! Obviously nobody is building office these days, and the hotel market is still in a funk.

198 units with 76 parking is good too. Probably less parking than what currently exists in the surface lot.

Looks like Riverside has several plans in mind for residential/mixed-use develpments

Quote:
Riverside is looking at additional sites in the city and in Chicago’s suburbs, as well as potential opportunities to convert older office buildings into apartments, Scacco said.

I thought that one originally was 19 stories.

The caissons-only permit description and another resource say 18 stories.

The extra floor is negligible. It'll be surrounded by taller buildings soon enough. Its just an awesome project all around. Glad it's moving forward. I might just drop a banana

Digital Realty is still planning to build a 13 story data center next to McCormick Place. DPD is currently reviewing the health impacts before allowing them to move forward

After visiting Chicago for 10 days, I realized like west loop/fulton market is the only part of downtown with heavy construction.
It seemed odd, I didn't see anyhing in Streeterville, River North, South Loop like previous years.

South Loop/Streeterville is barely changing at all.
